I am looking to buy a finesse rod for fishing drop shots and wacky worms for bass, and occasionally throwing small beetle spins, road runners, etc... for sac-crap-au-perch. I know I want a 6' to 6'6" ML or L power rod with a fast tip in the $50-$80 range.

Does the OB have any personal experience/recommendations with rods for these applications? Just FWIW, it will be paired with a 2000 series Shimano reel spooled with 12# Nanofil line.

i use an ultralight rod for the beetle spins and such but I'm looking to get a set up for wacky works and other finesse setups myself. I plan on pairing with a 1000 sedona or spirex. The rod i linked is what I'm thinking of going with. I have a couple M and MH that i use for bass fishing and I like them

I have a 7ft Shimano rd that is a great rod for doing that. I unfortunately can't remember the type but it is a white rod.

Might just be me, but I cannot cover both apps with one rod. That CCA rod is possibly best bang for buck in rods ever.

It's the HD series, they aren't the made in US ones so can be had for less, I think I paid around 50-60 for mine, got it from Academy. It's the 6' L one, I mainly use it for fishing creeks and small rivers, so it gets banged around a lot and has taken a great deal of abuse, and is still in good shape. It's a load of fun on 1-3 lb bass, but has handled several 10 lb catfish with ease.

Optimally, no. However, I kayak fish 90% of the time so my rods need to be multi-purpose. I have a rod I can use if I am targeting sac-au-lait, but we often just kind of luck into them while bass fishing and so having a rod I can use to finesse with that can also double for slabs when need be is what I am looking for. I have some lighter casting rods that handle most light bass fishing, but was looking for something that I could toss wacky rigged finesse worms on without much trouble that would still have the backbone needed to handle a 4# fish. A 7' rod is usually too much rod for what I am using it for, so something in the 6'6" range is ideal.

I appreciate the suggestions thus far. Keep em coming.

If I were you I wouldn't go lighter than medium. I have a 6'-6" Falcon HD and they run really light. If you get one of those get a MH. A light or ML, in my opinion, will not have enough hook set power.

I definitely want lighter than medium. I have handled a 6'6" medium falcon hd spinning rod and it was too hwavy for what i want. I have a 5'9" light falcon lowrider with a slower tip that is just a little too light for the finesse applications but perfect for slabs. Im thinking a 6' or 6'6" in med light is the way to go, but maybe a light with a fast tip would work too.

Yeah, I disagree with rballa. I have two of the HDs. They are dedicated crappie poles, but I have fished drop shot at TB with one. It was fun. Those are great rods. Both of mine are either L or UL.

I really like the bass pro shops graphite series rods and the berkeley lightning rods for lighter rods that do well. I have caught some BIG bass on these set ups.

Do you think the 6' Light with Moderate action would be a decent finesse rod? A little concerned with the tip, would like it to be faster, but honestly don't have a whole lot of experience fishing finesse presentations to I may be talking out of my arse.

All Star Shrimp Tail Special

Not sure if they make them in a spinning rod, or if they even make them anymore

It would work. It will be a lot of fun too. Going heavier would make perch fishing suck. I'd rather go lighter than heavier.

I have used a 6'6" L and a 7" M for both applications, and shaky heads. I like the 7 better, but I prefer rods with more back bone.

I caught some Abu Garcia Vendettas on sale at Academy last year and I have no complaints.

Kind of what I was thinking. I hate overpowering fish so I'm trying to downsize a lot of my gear. I'll be using some 12# nanofil so hopefully the no-stretch on the line will give me enough "umph" when setting the hook on bass and the rod will still make slabs fun.
