Will Smith - how do you think he would have fared in this defense in 2013

if he would not have gotten hurt. I remember watching the first preseason game and he looked lost at his new position and I know that was only a preseason game but would he have stayed at LB covering in pass coverage?
Not sure what his role would have been?

hard to know exactly how rob ryan would have adapted him into the defense after gathering knowledge about his strengths adn weaknesses. One thing we can say afterwards now is how good ryan adapted to the tools he had, not trying to plug his tools into a pre determined defense. Easy to say he could have been bad but look at Galette's stats, 10 games he had 2 or less tackles. Granted a few of them may have been sacks but he goes long stretches in games without being an impact from play to play. Will may have been a more consistent impact around the LOS but maybe slightly less in sack department... but maybe not...

similar to the $3.7mil Roman Harper backup role cept that Smith was a $7.6mil cap hit last year.

$11mil+ for those two C'mon Mickey, no more cap sucking re-dos!

Think he would have been very tired by now. Possibly dead.

Honestly, he would have been decent considering how much we played with 4 down linemen. Probably 4-5 sacks, and likely would have added some beef to stopping the run, but other than that, he just didn't have the ability to produce much more.

Still, he likely would have done more good than harm.

I think he'd be able to cover backs out of the backfield pretty well too. He would have been a "shut down corner," of sorts.

With Smith playing I think the Saints might have finished 8-8....

The thought of him trying to man up on a RB in that preseason game still makes me lol.

smith would have been the dominant enforcer this team was missing...remember that play where the chiefs ran a screen directly at him...it was quite impressive watching a guy 10 yards in front of you get about 75 yards behind you without a single block landing on you, or having the back cut, spin, or hurdle around you...

its like the gods combined the coverage skills of jason david, the tackling ability of darren sharper, the mean streak of scott shanle, the determination of charles grant, and the body shape of a mini norman hand into 1 ultimate football player i forgot the kap bicep kiss everyone knows and loves...how do you even gameplan against that... the injury was a freaking blessing that saved the team.

He would have been playing what Junior was playing this year, and I would have been raging the whole time, cause he would have been taking snaps away from Junior.

Just imagine how many 'great plays' we would have seen from Smith over the course of the season...
