Where do you rank Carlos Santana as a guitarist?

I have him behind Hendrix, Clapton, EVH, and Stevie Vai.

EVH, and Stevie Vai.
I´d throw a lot more in, before all of them, and immediately after the first two.
Just my opinion.
ETA I still don´t get how people on this board aren´t cognizant of the greatness of Mick Ronson. Absolutely blows my mind.

This is what sets him apart from EVH and others of that generation. I have seen Carlos in person and he is right up there with SRV and Clapton.

Santana is way better than Clapton, IMO.
But I think Clapton is very overrated.

Without thinking about it too hard I'd probably place him towards the bottom of my top ten or just outside of it

quote:Cotton, I´d imagine you´re referring to Mick Ronson. I also, don´t put him in top five, but there is no cognizance of this dude, and his importance in rock and roll history, let alone his prowess as a guitarist. I´ve alluded to it many a time over the years, and nothing in response.

The guy was massive in terms of forming sound.
Also, a lot of people here are Johnny Marr freaks, and Marr´s idol is or was, Ronson.

He sounds great with Chad Kroeger.

I was referring to Santana
But Ronson, from what little I know of him, is grossly underrated.

I have him ahead of Clapton, I prefer Santana's sound. Of course I have Hendrix first

Maybe not direct Ronson praise but Bowie albums from that era get a lot of love

I'm sure he is an excellent guitarist, but his music sends me into blind fits of rage.... Behind the RHCPs and slightly ahead of Clapton...

The correct answer here is D. Gilmour
