Got an academy gift card for Christmas. I've been keen on taking up knife throwing as a pastime, so I spent some of the card on some SOG Throwing knives and some SOG flings as well.

I'm going to cut myself a big stump log to throw at in my pasture. Aside from a safety first mentality, what are some other helpful tips or advice, if there is any. Thanks.

Practice throwing with a consistent throw before trying to improve accuracy. If you master a consistent throw the accuracy will come. If I had to compare to something I would use a good solid golf swing as an example.

Right on. I used to pitch in JUCO (not a horn toot, just establishing some coordination e-cred. Ha), so the art of a consistent motion has been hammered home time and again. I noticed the youtube vids of people doing it were all pretty consistently a slow toss. I'm pretty pumped about this to be Honest with ya.

Motorboat, thanks for the nod. What can I say? There's always a lingering lead taking me reaaaal far

Hardest thing for me was getting down the rotational speed for each distance. At my best, I could throw an axe at a tree 30yds away and stick it every time

I threw competitively in college for Conclave (timbersports and outdoor games). We had to use a hunting knife, no throwing knives allowed. 5, 10, and 15 yard throws. I have been trying to find a good log for a setup at my camp.

Bought a set of throwing knives to play around with along with my son. It's much harder than it looks. However, I'm deadly with a 5' blow gun. And my kid can slay with a bo staff.
