Why would you think that?

If you have an older car, AAA is great to have

It was for me, actually just a couple days ago my transmission fricked up on me and I needed a tow. Didn't have to pay shite, it was convenient.

If you have an old/unreliable car it's super valuable for the free towing. There are some other benefits that make it worthwhile, like hotel discounts and whatnot, but I don't know if it's that worthwhile if you're almost certain you will never need a tow. But then again, it's like $80 a year, so why the hell not?

For the hotel discounts, I usually see the AAA rate is similar to the cheapest rate you can't cancel, except you can cancel with the AAA rate. That's nice. And I've needed a tow in the past year.

exactly, it's $60 a year. If you need a tow, they tow you, if you need a jump, or run out of gas they help you. Even if you are too lazy to change a flat, they do that for you too.

The only reason I don't have it now, is because I have it with my Insurance through progressive.
AAA is great to have, especially if you travel or have an older car.

Oh and the discounts, I forgot about that, there are some great hotel and resort discounts.

If you have a relatively new vehicle that is still under a warranty that includes roadside assistance, then maybe not. For vehicles with no roadside assistance coverage, I think is it a good investment. I have it because my wife and daughter are on the road often.

At first I read it as "is AA worth joining?"

If you have an unreliable car, then it probably is. I haven't called them since I got a new car, but I used them all the time since I got a new car.

I'm a member. Came in handy when my fuel pump stopped and I had to get towed to the repair shop.

Also, if you use UPS Store some of their locations give you discounts on shipping (but not if you send something by USPS, only by UPS) and supplies.

I've used it a few times to get into locked cars. My own (twice) and others--your AAA card goes with you, the member, no matter whose car is involved. I've saved some friends $50 using AAA.

It's also valuable if you get the add-on towing for your older car. Tows are free up to $100 miles and I had to use it several times when I was in college.

Did you get a letter from them?

I just did and I was thinking about starting this same thread. We're on the road a lot, so I may give it a try.

I think so. I've used them several times. It's especially useful if you have a car that originally came with run flat tires so you have no spare. I used them once for this reason. Another time when my starter went out at only 40k miles and once on my wife's car when the battery cable broke loose from the starter on her car.
