Depending on where you want to go/stay, will depend on what kind of options you have for CC sign up bonuses. Nothing wrong with spending those Venture card points on flights/hotel, but you generally just don't get the same bang for your buck as you can when you are able to transfer points to an airline with Chase/Amex/Citi.

To go along with what he said, a small illustration.

Your 200k Venture points are worth $2,000. That's it, exactly that.

With transferable points, you could go to South America in first/business class for two people for 140,000 points. Those tickets are probably worth well north of $2,000.

But that's only if you're into that sort of thing, of course.

It can get complicated though, since some cards give you 2x on everything like Venture, and some give 1x, 2x, 5x etc. Points are worth various amounts just like Euros are worth more than dollars. Takes some research. Have fun on your trip!

just got an email saying my Barclays Arrival is being upgraded to the World Elite version. My CL was $4,000 on the card so I guess it's going up too.

I've really done nothing special on this card and have actually been taking advantage of the 0% APR on the card by holding a balance pretty much since I've owned it.

Ya, every body got it. I don't think it changes much of anything, but maybe I'm wrong.

Do you know what World Elite means on the Citi AA MasterCard? I have the Platinum and got my wife to sign up for the card when they had a 50,000 mile bonus. So she gets the card and quickly spends the $3k and then they upgrade her to World Elite. WTF?

Anyway, just wondering if there are any extra advantages and don't feel like calling in.

I know when I first applied for the card, you apparentely needed a $5,000 CL to get the World Version. Mines was only the Platinum version when I got it

Looks like additional travel perks and discounts. Looks like some potentially decent stuff in there

Elite perks are better. Doesn't mean credit limit increase though.

Thanks for link, I didn't find anything like that when searching Google before

I'm thinking of calling them and trying to get them to upgrade me. My wife who doesn't even work gets the World Elite and I have been with them for years and don't have it

I just signed up for the United Visa so I don't have room for 2 cards with $95 fees (first year free) and I'm debating on which to keep. Honestly though, I fly AA more and the priority boarding is key for me.

My plan for American/US Airways is getting each card with their signup bonus then just use Amex SPG transfers to American when I want to use it. $65 annual fee and I'm not locked in if those other benefits aren't deal breakers.

I already got targeted for 50k US Airways miles for $89 fee after first purchase so American card signup will give me 100k easy once they merge next year.

Yeah, I got the AA card a few years ago as a companion to my SPG Amex for when a place doesn't take Amex. I quickly learned I can earn more AA miles with SPG than a freaking AA card

I don't like paying the $95 and I know it isn't worth the early boarding alone. I usually never check bags so the free bag doesn't really help me. I've just kept it since it's been with me for a while, but may drop it. The United I'm sure to drop as I can't stand them, but I wanted those 50k miles!

I'll probably do the US Air next once they merge or should I do it before I wonder?

I'd get US Air sooner rather than later. I believe Barclay's can't sign up new people once 2015 starts.

Then in 2015 the miles should merge into AA miles and you'll be set.

Same here. Only used it one time since I got the bonus and that was for a rental car since it has primary rental insurance.

Just looked at creditcards.com and it lists 40k points for the US Air card. I've probably gotten targeted offers from them too, but I always throw that stuff out. I have to remember to look at that stuff

The united biz card gives 2x on dining so I've been using mine quite a bit to get my biz spending up to look attractive to chase for other biz card offers. Don't know if it will help but I'm about to apply for two in the coming months.

Anybody that doesn't have the us air card now, needs to apply before year end. 40-50k points transferred to AA for $89. Husband and spouse apply for that and the 50k citi AA Plat is damn near enough to fly first or biz to anywhere in the world for ~$200.

I'm about to downgrade Ink Plus and am about to start doing the same thing. Figure if they have my file open it needs to look in order.

I don't have time to play the credit card games many here play. That said I did get a new AmEx card through Fidelity Investments that pays 2% cash back on all purchases all the time with no limit. That is the best day to day card for the long term I have seen.

We ran all our social media advertising and travel over personal cards this year ran over $150K over chase's SWA card and got a bunch of southwest points but it seems to me at best those are only equal to about 1%. This year if we spend the same the 2% card will give us $3000.

Certainly a fine card for those who do not want travel rewards/keep it simple
