Patty doesn't seem to value your time.

Patty is apparently too busy to frick around with me on the internets

quote:

you: Patty am I waiting on anything? If you're busy I can try to speak with someone later.
Patty: X, you will $100.00 credit for incidental charge...
Patty: I am sorry for delay...
Patty: You will get $100.00 credit for incidental charge....
you: I appreciate it but what does that mean?
you: Is that for airport lounge access?
Patty: Yes, that's correct.
you: Will this just be noted on my account or do I need to fill out a form?
Patty: No, it is for all Platinum card member...
Patty: YOu certainly need not to worry about this...
you: Alright. Well thanks.

Don't get me wrong tho, I still like the platinum card it is just obvious that the card is losing value... I chatted with them and they said they were opening 2 new Centurion clubs this year which I guess still let's you bring your spouse or whomever in for free... I believe she said Laguardia and either LAX or SFO. Could be wrong in that tho I'm not remembering well.

Patty apparently says frick your time. Take your $100 credit and be gone.

Patty says I don't need to worry about it.

I trust Internet Patty.

That's good they gave you $100 but unless AMEX gets ahead of this I foresee a major issue March 22nd when Delta Sky Lounge starts telling Platinum card members they can no longer bring their spouses or co-workers in unless they spend $29.

I'm not sure if this review page will link but they all tell the exact same story, losing value.

I don't have a spouse so it will never matter to me but I could see how it does.

Pay $175 for the extra cards. Keep a couple extra handy. Problem solved.

So apparently we're not close to being ballers. People are getting a lot more than us apparently. I might try again over the phone.

Looks like $100 is the standard offer they give to basically shut you up for another year

I basically told them I didn't want to activate my Platinum and wanted to switch back to the gold (looking back, probably should have bluffed and said cancel my acct altogether) and they basically said I could do it no questions asked, no charges.

Debating whether to keep gold or activate platinum. It just seems like now is a bad time to enter into platinum, I think I am going to hold off a year and see how they weather this shite storm that is coming.

I'm telling ya tho, only ppl that really scour the internet know what is coming in march and to call now and get the $100 or whatever... much bigger problems are coming 3/22... maybe much bigger payouts to customers if I had to guess

Pretty much. These people know I'm bluffing. I've used lounge access like twice.

Be a loyal customer. We might be rewarded. Apparently only if you complain or ask about it.

Lounge access was pretty much the selling point for me, even if I don't use it as regularly as others. I've started using the concierge though like a personal assistant for things.

I'm not leaving Platinum though. $450 or not. I'm happy with my $100. I have yet to even pay one fee to AMEX since I got my original account 2 years ago.

I've pretty much been partying on their dollar anyway.

I am interested in how they market the card to new customers after 3/22. I can't see them sticking with the same $450 fee without adding more perks.

I think they will make it right tho, right now it seems like the Centurion Lounge is how they plan on doing that. Only problem is they will only have 4 total clubs after this year. If they had one in Atlanta, my home airport, I would signup without hesitation tho.

Won't really affect New Orleans flyers. Look at these awesome Sky Club hours for the only lounge in NOLA:

SUN–FRI:
5AM - 7:15PM

AT:
5AM - 6PM

Pretty much if you have a layover, you're sitting outside with the commons.

And? I'm no OT baller so it doesn't bother me as much. It's a nice amenity but not a necessity. I'm surprised that a NOLA lounge has such early closing hours.

Nola doesn't service international, doesn't have many connecting flights, and is almost empty after 8.

I used the Admirals Club access benefit all the time, so this is definitely detracting from the Platinum's value for me. That said, it still proabably pays for itself due to the credits and upgrades I get at their Fine Hotels & Resorts properties, along with the upgraded status with Starwood and various rental car agencies.

I just supplemented it by adding a Citi AAdvantage Executive/World Elite card. It also has a $450 charge, but you get full Admirals Club membership (not just access like the AMEX), free checked bags, elite qualifying miles (the only way without flying them), and Priority Access check-in and boarding.

I work too hard to be inconvenienced on a vacation layover with some mouth breather slobbering on my shoulder at some gate bench.

Dang... Looks like this will effect the Delta Reserve as well. Hopefully they will just waive the fee for a 2nd card holder on my acct.

I would not be shocked to see that be their remedy for both cards

Well we got $100 for undefined incidentals. If you read back you'll notice Patty was too busy for my nonsense to explain. All I know is I should not worry and "fuhgetaboutit".

AMEX really needs to straighten this out because there will be some not too happy traveling non-internet people completely taken off guard.

Oh I read the entire thread before I posted.... I have no problem down grading to the Platinum Delta Amex if they say no to a second card for my fiancé.

you guys should check out flyer talk forums or the points guy.

i have an amex prg card that is perfect for me as i don't travel a lot(so i wouldn't realize most of the platinum benefits). I do take advantage of all the offers amex has at local restaurants and retailers($25 off $75 amazon purchase, etc.) so it helps negate the annual fee.
