Who do you primarily fly? Are you looking to use points to fly domestic or international?

It's a keeper card for me. Considered best point value by many bloggers.

SPG gold has gotten me upgraded a couple of times to club rooms.

I just discovered AAdvantage Dining. Now I get two points per dollar from the Sapphire Preferred card plus up to 5 miles per dollar spent including tax and tip by eating at any one of a ton of restaurants. Mo miles, mo miles.
Just unsubscribe from the emails they send Way too many.

I just went through Staples' gift card list and wrote down which ones I thought I might use going forward as a quick reference

I hit up Office Depot and stock up on Amazon, shell & Exxon gift cards each month. Put a couple gas cards in her vehicle and mine. Probably an extra 3k points/month just by doing that without much hassle. 36k points annually for buying essentials.

When you make the payment to Amazon, what category does it show up on your statement?

The reason I ask, is sometimes cards have 2/3/5% cash back with online shopping. Does the transfer show up as Amazon?

It shows up as Amazon payments not Amazon.

Ah, so its likely just a 1:1 point ratio...

Oh well, quick and easy way to get points. May do this for the discover offer. Transfer $500 every month through Sept and get the $100 cash offer from them.

Office Depot doesn't sell those cards online, so I was waiting to get my Bold before strolling in to see what they had. That said, if you haven't looked through Staples' online list yet, you should. My list of "might use in the future" businesses is over twenty long. Everything from Bass Pro to Starbucks, many of which are "digital" cards that are emailed to you with no shipping fee.

Just got the confirmation that I got the extra 2x points on the Staples GCs via UR Mall

Nice little point payday.

I'd like to order 10/month, but don't know if I'd be pushing my luck with that.

What's your take, guru?

10 a month is $2,000 worth. I don't think that's some crazy number, especially if you aren't looping it around. It's completely legitimate to use those cat bonuses to your advantage per what I've read Chase had said.

I did 8 last month but not all at once to pay my rent. I plan to do similar into the future once my home mortgage and all that is set up.

BTW, that box the Citi Executive card comes in is downright sexy.

Is that the same as the Citi Prestige? I just got the Prestige and it came in a very nice box/package..

I did 5 and spent them the old fashioned way.

And I'm looking to pay my mortgage as well. Need to go ahead and try to set all that up.

It's not.

The packaging and first class shipping on the Exec card probably values at $20 between all the crap they send

I'd be curious to know how many people actually keep that card after year 1.

Ya, I can't do anything right now since the cards may not arrive to my current address by the time I close and move.

I did just have my statement close and can confirm that the points posted and my Visa Savings Edge discount posted as well.

Hopefully this last a while because its nice.

Prestige is a better card IMO, but lacks the 100k AA miles signup bonus.

It comes packaged in a black box that is sent overnight. There's a separate overnight package announcing your approval.

We might. We fly American and US Air almost exclusively and I like the idea of Admiral's Club plus the free first bag for up to 8 people is a huge money saver. Our kids take friends on vacation so we travel as a party of 6. That's $300 saved in baggage cost plus baggage savings on the trips my wife and I take together.

thinking of getting a card. I have a rental property so probably qualify for a business card. are you saying I could also somehow pay the mortgage of that property and get points?

Never the same airline, and I'm moving in the next 6 months. I probably fly Delta the most, but company policy is cheapest. I try to stay away from everyone but Delta and Southwest, but that rarely happens.

That's what it seems like. Versatile and Points. I can probably rack those up.

Thanks for help, especially if the Platinum isn't up to snuff now, I guess I can wait a bit though. I'm not worried about the early month to month bonuses, I can hit those any time of year.

If you aren't going to use a branded airline card, I would recommend the Chase Sapphire Preferred. It still offers a lot of versatility and the bonus categories are primarily for travel & dining.

The AMEX SPG is a great card, but it offers no bonus categories outside of SPG properties and is a straight 1% across the board.
