Strong will end up failing HUGE

I think he is by far the most overrated coach to be sought after in some time. I follow UL a bit because I used to live there and was greatly amused at how out of touch their local media was when it came to understanding how piss poor their schedule was. Back then, they thought Flynn had "no chance" to beat out Brohm and I laughed because Brohm had put up huge numbers against no one. Hawaii media has had the same problem in the past. They though Chang was goin to the NFL.
Look at UL this year. They were VASTLY more talented than pretty much every team they played. And yet, they had at least three games where LSU fans would've been homicidal had their coach shite the bed that bad. They beat Memphis by ONE fricking TD. Memphis isn't bad. They are HORRIBLE.
Beat Houston by ONE TD and offense, with BRIDGEWATER for chrissakes looked awful.
Looked very pedestrian vs Rutgers.
Strong will fail at UT because frankly, I kind of view him as today's Curley Hallman. He's reaping the rewards of a fabulous QB and a pitiful schedule. His only chance is if he hires a hell of an OC because frankly, I think given their talent level and competition, the UL offense blew chunks quite often this year.

If Strong fails at Texas, it will be because the boosters (specifically Joe Jamail and Red McCombs) can't keep their hands off the program

So I'm not sure what to believe, this board is telling me Teddy Bridgewater is Joe Montana and Dan Marino built into one and the MSB is telling me he's Akili Smith after a brain injury

Sign me up for the Strong will fail at Texas. I don't think that was a good hire for Texas at all. I think they put all their eggs in the Saban basket and really did not know where to go from that point.
If I was a Texas fan I wouldn't be to happy about this hire. Then again, just me.

LOL. Well. I think it's neither. I think he is greatly overrated. But, I still think he's very good.
That said, I flat out do NOT expect him to be the first QB off the board once the NFL gets a tight look at him in the combine.
I watched UL this year. That dude was throwing to guys 10 yards in the clear 90% of the time. Sparacino would've completed 50% of his passes with guys that damned open. It was like they were playing HS teams.

So...his performance in last years Sugar Bowl was fool's gold?

Thats pretty strong but also a good analogy. Personally I think they could have found better....10-2 or 9-3's aint gonna get it done.
I think he has 3 years and is gone.....THEN THEY GET NICK!!!!

His performance for the SEASON this year was very uneven given the level of competition he was facing. Look at who they played. Mett might've had 5000 damned yards against that shite.

He's a risk for sure. It would worry me that he has faced so few, and beaten so few, top teams. I also don't know that 4 years of head coaching experience is enough to weather the pressure of Texas.
The positives to his resume:
1. Good recruiter
2. Experience under several elite coaches - Holtz, Spurrier, and Meyer.
3. His expertise is on the defensive side, which Texas needs.
I'd give the a hire a B-.

What you have to like about Strong is that he's never really been a loser. As DC of Florida he fielded great defenses under an offensive head coach. He also was never a loser at his time in Louisville.
I think if he can recruit Texas, he will be successful at UT. Not Saban successful, but no one can do that.

I personally believe this is what UT did: settled down. Way down.
I wonder how quickly those WASPy folks at UT are going to run Charlie out of town after a couple of 8-4 seasons.

I disagree wholeheartedly.
He is a very good recruiter and a very good defensive coach. Couple these things with his absurdly rich talent base in Texas and unlimited money funneling into the program and I can down right guarantee he will win 10 games a year starting very soon.
He has the pedigree from major programs and coaches and the 2 most important things to sustain long term success: recruiting ability and defensive coaching ability.

i dont think hes the right fit
he got the job because hes black and they wanted someone to win back some recruits from sumlin
if strong were white he wouldnt be nearly as popular

You're fricking retarded if you think that's the reason. We wanted the anti-mack so that's what we went out and got

Got his start under Jackie Sherrill in the 80's.

Yup, and it'll make Mack look like some genius of a coach, which was his plan all along when he scuttled the Saban to Texas deal.

If he wasn't hired it would be because he's black and when he was hired it's this.
He's a good hire and well qualified for the position. Regardless of color. I'm not a UT fan but I like the hire they made. We'll just have to wait and see if it works out.

I have no clue about Strong, but Watson is a well respected OC. Wonder if he will follow Charlie.
