OK OB, what would y'all recommend for keeping track of two older dogs (one mostly deaf) that could get lost in a new environment?

The deaf one is apt to wander off, the little one, not so much.

My concern is they could get out before we notice it and get lost.

A Garmin device?

The Garmin GPS units are excellent. I do not know how well they would work with daily use but Garmin bought Tri-Troincs so the guts should be stout...

Downshift has the Garmin for his tracking dog and it's awesome, but I'm not sure how it'd work in your scenario bc I'm not sure how long the battery life is. That'd probably be the biggest concern for you unless you'll be taking them off everyday and putting back on when you let the dogs out .

My motto. If it dont hunt dont track it. Maybe it will find a new home.

I think the battery life on the garmin collar is up to ~12 hours depending on how often you set it to update position with about a 4 hour charge time.

That thing is an incredible device but I think it's a little overkill for what you're doing. Underground fence would probably be your best bet.

Yeah, I was just looking for a short term deal before the board fence goes up.

It should be up in a month or so once parts of the lot dry out.

Meanwhile, I've got a hog(s) to get rid of and maybe a coyote.
