So much for Al Qaeda being on the run.

quote:

Baghdad (AFP) Jan 04, 2014 - The Iraqi government has lost control of the city of Fallujah, which is now held by Al-Qaeda-linked militants, a senior security official in Anbar province said on Saturday.
"Fallujah is under the control of ISIL," the official said, referring to Al-Qaeda-linked group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Parts of Ramadi and Fallujah, west of Baghdad, have been held by militants for days, harkening back to the years after the 2003 US-led invasion when both cities were insurgent strongholds.

Iraq will be in a worse civil war than Syria within a year.

Yep. They are saying the violence is the worst it's been since 2008.

I'm letting this story affect me more than I probably should. I left quite a few friends on the streets of Fallujah and Ramadi.

I'm still amazed that the Iraqi Gov't still doesn't get it. Fallujah was one of our hardest earned victories and to allow them to piss that away is very disturbing.

President Barack Obama has described al Qaeda as having been “decimated,” “on the path to defeat” or some other variation at least 32 times since the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, according to White House transcripts.

I hope they're safe. I can understand your apprehension with what's going down.

Recently, on Nov. 1 in Green Bay, Wis., Obama said, “Thanks to sacrifice and service of our brave men and women in uniform, the war in Iraq is over, the war in Afghanistan is winding down, al Qaeda has been decimated, Osama bin Laden is dead.”

One day after the Benghazi attack that occurred on the 11th anniversary of 9/11, Obama spoke at a campaign event in Las Vegas on Sept. 12. “A day after 9/11, we are reminded that a new tower rises above the New York skyline, but al Qaeda is on the path to defeat and bin Laden is dead,” Obama said in Las Vegas.

On Sept. 13 in Golden, Colo., Obama said, “Four years ago, I promised to end the war in Iraq -- and we did. I said we’d wind down the war in Afghanistan -- and we are. And while a new tower rises above the New York skyline, al Qaeda is on the path to defeat, and Osama bin Laden is dead.” He repeated that line again on Sept. 17 in Cincinnati and again that day in Columbus, Ohio.

The next day at a fundraising event at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, Obama brought up the first 9/11 and used “decimated,” indicating past tense. “We’ve got choices about war and peace,” Obama said. “I ended the war in Iraq, as I promised. We are transitioning out of Afghanistan. We have gone after the terrorists who actually attacked us 9/11 and decimated al Qaeda.”

On Sept. 21 in Woodbridge, Va. and Sept. 23 in Milwaukee, Obama again said, “al Qaeda is on the path to defeat.”

The next day, campaigning in Bowling Green, Ohio, Obama again said, “al Qaeda is on the path to defeat.” That same day at Kent State University, Obama used the same line. Obama said the same thing on Sept. 27 in Virginia Beach, Va. On Sept. 28 at the Hilton in Washington, Obama said, “We said that we would go after al Qaeda, and they are on the run and bin Laden is dead.”

.....

I think you get the idea...

Well I didn't really mean the Iraqi's, but yeah, most of them seemed like decent folk who just wanted to tend to their farms and work their shops without shite blowing up on the street everyday. It's a shame that the two cities we fought so hard for are now back in enemy hands.

How many American soldiers died fighting there? For what?

People running our government are evil.

The major media outlets vilified George W. Bush for his congratulatory address to the crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln in front of a Mission Accomplished banner. This despite the banner having been produced by the ship's crew, and Bush never uttering the phrase mission accomplished. Why has Obama been spared the same sort of vilification for the inaccurate statements he has actually made? Why haven't his statements been questioned by those media outlets?

We gave them a pretty good head start in '04.

This is obviously tragic, and who the group is that's doing it doesn't really matter a great deal in terms of the cost of human life. What I'm curious about is how they determine what groups are "linked" to what other groups.

IMHO
Get rid of the Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, AQI, Islamic state in Iraq, Mahdi army and other militias. Then the problem will go away.

What we did in Iraq and Afghanistan was a tragedy that will leave that area suffering for generations.

While I agree what we did was a party foul I must say those countries put the fun in dysfunctional wayyyyyy before we were in the picture.

But in this case, conservative media outlets also seem to not be giving these stories much consideration (yet). Maybe this will be the beginning of "Iraq Syndrome", as Iraq will represent the equitable failures of both the Bush and Obama administrations.

Broken record on a stereo is all too often coming from his mouth when giving a speech. I would think even his writers get tired of typing that same shite daily.

True, but they were at least relatively stable.
