New to Homebrewing. Few Questions?

My sister gave me a homebrewing kit for my graduation present. The kit includes everything but an ingredient kit, bottles, thermometer, and a brew pot. Where can i find these things in Baton Rouge? Also, i know there is a thread about different recipes and all that. But, can someone give me some tips on what to do and maybe a beginners guide on ingredients? Thanks.

Most people have crawfish boiling pots or turkey frying pots that can be used with a propane burner.
Thermometer can be found at target or something similar. Digital helps.
Bottles can be recycled from what you already drink if they're not the screw cap style bottles or can be purchased at LA Homebrew or Cubans if you're in BR.
Ingredients can be purchased at those places as well or over the internet from AustinHomebrew or Morebeer.com or Northernbrewer.com You'll probably want to start out with extract kits.

Too bad Red White and Brew isn't still open. It was a treasure trove for home brewers.

I recommend 'How To Brew' by John Palmer to all new brewers. John keeps a free copy of the first edition online at howtobrew.com.
As far as ingredients; I'd suggest stopping by LA Homebrew or Cuban's and picking up a kit or letting them build you one based on your taste in beer.
Be sure and let them know you're a first time brewer, maybe bring them a picture of the kit you received, and they should be able to get you started off on the right foot.
Good luck!

It was a legitimate question..You said you got "a kit" but it seems like you didn't get anything one would normally come with.

Most kits dont come with a brew kettle. Surprised about the thermometer not being included but still.
I'd assume he got 2 fermenters (one being a bottler), some tubing, a siphon, a bottler, maybe a cleaning brush and maybe some bottle tops.

Most homebrewing starter kits don't come with a boil kettle, bottles, a thermometer, or an ingredient kit.
All of that stuff is typically sold separately or available as an add on to a 'base/standard' kit.

Just get a kit from Austinhomebrew. Pick extract.
brew kettle
This kettle and burner would be good if you need the burner. Otherwise just get a turkey pot. They are inexpensive and perfect for 5 gallon batches

If it was an all grain kit I would be surprised at the lack of a thermometer, but with extract brewing all you really need to know is when the water/wort is boiling.

Still should have one to make sure you pitch yeast at reasonable temperature.

True, I think my kit came with those little aquarium style sticker thermometers that go outside of the buckets. They weren't ideal, but it worked.
They probably don't include those items in the kits so they can keep costs down and bc all of those items are available to most people at their closest walmart / target.

Welcome to the club.
I know a little about brewing from helping a friend, but I just got my first kit last week from a local homebrew shop. Sounds like my kit is just like yours and for beginner extract beers, the only thing extra you need is some bottles.
If you are into drinking the 22oz beers I suggest you start saving those. I already know from experience that filling 48 small bottles and washing them is a pain.
I think with the extract brewing you are fine with a large pot on the stove.

The store in Hammond?

Go to a restaurant supply store for a brew pot. How to Brew by Palmer is the book you need. Go to la Homebrew off of pecue or Cuban liquor for other equipment like a hydrometer, airlock, etc.
