It cost a car dealership near Seattle more than that. Jet Chevrolet in Federal Way, Washington ran a promotion offering 12 different people $35,000 each if the Seahawks shut out the Giants with entries doled out to those who bought cars as well as those who just wanted to take a shot on the Seahawks defense. The Giants had not been shut out at home in the regular season since 1995, but there were no points to be found this Sunday.

“This is crazy,” Jim Johnson, one of the owners of the dealership, said, via Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. “We never expected that we’d actually be giving away the money.”

The dealership took out insurance, which cost them $7,000, and they’re waiting to see how the insurance company advises handling the payout of the money.

I mean the Seahawks have one of the best defenses in the NFL. He should have at least considered the possibility.

Doesn't matter to him. It's the insurance company's problem now. They're the ones that should have considered the possibility and charged a higher premium.

Yeah, I don't know anything about the insurance business but it seems like charging less than 2% on the Seahawks defense getting a shutout was a little foolish.

agreed. They dont need it though. When traffic is at a dead stop on I5 you could almost spit on their property. They are highly visible.

Why?

Do you think an underwriter gets fired everytime someone buys an auto policy and then causes a 5 car accident the next week with six-figure damages?

Why is insuring something like this not considered gambling?

That's a weird thing to insure if your an insurance company (definitely makes more sense as the car dealership, considering how good Seattle's d is especially at home). I wonder if they've done that the other home games before that?

I think it's Lloyd's of London that insures this. They will insure almost anything (See Troy Polamalu's hair).

A dealership in Arkansas said they would give away a new car a month if Arkansas went 0fer in the SEC. Not nearly 420k, but he was an idiot for making the deal with the way we were playing.
