We just drove an hour to bass pro and they won't let us buy the gun because we told them it was a Christmas gift. Wtf?

My brother is trying to buy his gf of five years a sub 9mm. What should he do?

UPDATE: We had no other choice but Bass Pro because we were using a gift card. However, the OB came through. I used the legal information posted and requested a manager. After talking to about 4 different people wand explaining our situation, we finally got to speak to a manager that know what the hell he was talking about. After two hours, we finally have the gun and are headed home. Thanks OB!

TLDR: Buying a gun as a gift to your gal is completely legal.

Go back and reference 11.A

Get the manager involved. I would raise hell.

Or just shut your mouth and have the firearm in your name and hope he doesn't do anything stupid with it.

The firearm isn't going to be "in his name" regardless. There's no registration.

Cliffs? Does that mean we SHOULD be able to legally purchase the gun for his girlfriend as a gift? Sorry we are walking around and it's tough to read and understand all that at the moment.

Also, could you link that page please?

In the future, don't say anything about gifts.

You can say anything you want about gifts if the person selling you the gun isn't an idiot.

It's the ATF form 4473 that you fill out to buy a firearm. It's on the paper they give you.

Go to a local place and support them. Gifting firearms is legal. Screw bass pro.

You voluntarily stated it was a gift? Go to Academy, pick the one you want, fill out paperwork, keep your mouth shut. It's not that difficult unless you just HAVE to tell someone it's a gift. The store has no way of knowing if the person you're giving it to is a felon. If that person is a felon, then it would be a straw purchase.

Gifting a firearm is perfectly LEGAL. This is one of my problems with Herbert guns. They did this same shite to me first hand with my wife present. I fricking went ape shite in there telling them they were wrong. I won the argument and will do my damn finest to get everyone to never spend another dime in that place. If you sell firearms you need to know the fricking rules.

KR I agree with what you're saying, but the guy behind the counter MAY see it as a straw purchase. That's all I'm saying.

OP needs to explain it to them, show them the form and get them to concede and sell him the gun. Then say, never mind, frick you.

When I first moved back to AL, I had a guy at a local gunshop refuse to sell me a handgun because I have Dupuyten's contractures in both my hands. I simply went to Academy and purchased the handgun I really wanted. It wasn't something to make me go off on him, I just took my business and money elsewhere.
