They have the right to refuse service to anybody. I was trained to refuse the sale if I had any question that it might be a straw purchase. In the future just do not say it is a gift.

The firearm isn't going to be "in his name" regardless. There's no registration.

The gun will be "in his name" on the 4473 that he fills out for the pruchase and that is one of the first things the atf/police will try to find.

It's pretty stupid and not usually followed but that's how stores like Cabelas/BPS/Dick's/Academy operate. They are only concerned about making money and covering their own arse.

Beretta Nano 9mm. He wanted to get her the Glock G26 but went with the Beretta instead.

I'm thinking of getting the Nano myself.

I went to Bowie's because my brother was buying me a .22 CZ for my birthday. When my brother said it was my birthday present. The short dude with glasses flipped out and told him to read the form...my brother cited 11a after reading it and we were told to leave. Never going back.

The funny thing is these are the same people who flip out saying gun laws are getting too strict, and they themselves make the regulations more strict than they are supposed to be.

Bowie's sadly has a history of this. I sold guns in BR (wasn't Bowies) and we used to get customers coming in every so often with the same issue.

A lot of salesmen don't know the rules and it is an absolute disgrace. Complete embarrassment.... And you wonder why people have been getting weird about firearms lately. The people behind the counter need to know what they're doing. If a business did this to me I would have caused a firestorm and never gone back. People can be so dumb for the sole purpose of unnecessarily covering their arse.

Look I know what you mean but your possible straw purchase is just gonna go down the street and buy a gun from someone else. It's very easy to ask a couple of basic questions and their answers almost every time will immediately give it away as a straw purchase or legal gifting.

In the 18 months I worked in BR, I refused two purchases... One because the guy was high/drunk/combo off his arse, second because I saw the felon hand the buyer the cash in the store after picking out which one he wanted. A third couple left the store on their own after I asked who the gun was for and why weren't they looking at it. Those who cause a scene shouldn't be behind the counter.

I don't think the phrase "it's a gift" makes it reasonable to think that the person is buying the firearm for someone not legally allowed to own one.
