Thought I would start a thread for the few people interested in here.

Names brought up that are still in play

-Doug Nussmeier. Obvious connections with UW and is from the NW. Would jump at the opportunity if offered. ESPN is reporting that he's interviewing on Thursday.

-Justin Wilcox. The promotion from within option. It doesn't sound like he's leaving for USC. He has a $1 million buyout if he leaves for another Pac-12 school and USC is rumored to not want to pay that. Lots of speculation that we hire Nussmeier and keep Wilcox and the defensive staff around as well.

-Ray Horton. Former UW player and grew up in the area. Rumors are that people connected with him are pushing for UW to strongly consider him.

-Tim DeRuyter. Just seen some speculation, but haven't heard many rumors (if any at all) about UW considering him yet.

-Chris Petersen. Bruce Feldman of CBS reports that Chris Petersen is interviewing for the job tonight (Thursday).

Names rumored or confirmed to be off the board

-Jim Mora. Just agreed to an extension with UCLA.

-Gary Pinkel. Shot it down on Mike & Mike.

you sure Peterson is off the board? I've heard differently in the last hour or two.

That's the rumor. Apparently we asked if he was open for discussion and he declined. Nothing concrete though, more just hearsay. Why, what did you hear/read in the last hour or two about him?

You would certainly think so. But you can't know this.

Nothing is 100% certain until it happens, but that's the rumors at least.

Interesting. I know there was a day or two ago, but the same person who provided the info that Petersen was a strong possibility came back and shot it down.

I would think it's safe to say that anyone would jump at a head coaching job in an awesome place like UW over remaining a coordinator in Tuscaloosa Alabama.

yeah he backtracked on it too. I talked to him yesterday and he basically shot down Peterson and was suggesting Nuss. But about 2 hours ago he said lot of smoke there suddenly. And he doesn't want Peterson so it's not wishful thoughts.

Apparently Brock Huard just said that the Petersen thing might have legs. So maybe that's where he got it from.

Petersen declined, I have it from several who are tied directly to CP, anything saying different is uninformed or a smokescreen.

Ed Ogeron would do well there as would Bronco Mendenhall.

I'm actually surprised no one has made a serious run at Mendenhall the last few years. He's done some really good things at BYU.

First, I think Orgeron would be a disaster, just as he was at Ole Miss.

Second, I agree with you about Mendenhall. I actually just looked him up to bring his name into this thread to see if he had any Washington ties. He doesn't, but played at Oregon State and coached there as an assistant. I think he would be a really good fit myself
