With Davis out, would y'all be against having Aminu start at PF?

Nothing against Anderson, I just think he is a lot more effective when he comes off the bench vs when he has had to start. Also, that position is lot more natural for Aminu, maybe show that he can play that position well and can end up turning him into trade bait maybe?

The problem with Aminu is that he still doesn't understand his limitations.

He has games like tonight where he does exactly what he is meant to do as a basketball player: defense, rebound, garbage buckets.

He had quite a few "maybe he has turned the corner" games these past two years and then he would always regress to becoming a black hole on offense and disinterest on defense.

You wish he understood like Rodman did when he hit the NBA: I have a role and I'm going to excel at it and leave my weaknesses to my team to make up. Rodman averaged like 25ppg for his career in college, but he knew he excelled at defense and rebounding so he became the best at it and left the scoring to his team-mates.

Aminu needs to develop that mentality. Pick up 10+ rebound a game, score like 6 points a game, and be a lock down defender.

he also played for an NAIA team, so I can just imagine how stellar that competition was.

when he fouled Melo when they were going up the court, i nearly lost my shite. there is no way this dude was the best FA PF out there. there HAS to have been someone better.

Point is, he knew he couldn't score the same way in the big leagues so he focused on two things: rebounding and defense. As to why he became arguably the best at in his prime. That's what I'm saying, aminu sucks at scoring (even in college he was average), but he is definitely a good rebounder and defensive player. Focus on it, work on your craft and don't do more than you know your limits.

The Aminu hate is beyond me. Aminu has averaged 8 and 7 FGA/36 the last two seasons. Dude knows his limits on offense. And he's actually been better with the ball in his hands than I thought he could be.

He's still 23. Playing defense at this level is about more than effort, despite what high school coaches say. It takes time for young guys to figure it out- even Davis has lapses frequently.

As far as starting him, it depends on the matchup. Chicago is a bad idea because of Boozer. I doubt Monty starts him at all, but he probably needs to stagger the guard minutes so Evans isnt left playing 1 on 5.

AA should never have been on the floor with Davis and Smith bc that allowed defenses to pack it in (3 guys who are no threat behind the 3pt).

Now that Davis will be out for an extended time. AA's role should increase dramaticslly. He actually would be the best player to fill an AD type role bc their skill sets are the most similar (i am not saying he is near the player that Davis is but he is by far our best defender and offensive RB if allowed to play under the goal).

AA should just be moved to PF permanently IMO bc he just doesnt have the offensive skills to play SF.

No that is what I would do. I think Aminu brings a lot of what davis does on defense and could be a terror on the boards. Then we can keep Anderson and Reke coming off the bench together

Its a matchup thing. And most nights Aminu would get dominated by opposing PFs. He's not strong enough to guard actual PFs in the post. Sure when teams go really small he can guard guys like Carmelo.

But more often than not its gonna be guys like Boozer(tonight), Griffin, Aldridge, ZBO, Monroe, Lee, Ibaka, Dirk. Those guys would walk Aminu under the rim all night. And that's just our next 10 games or so.

AA just cannot be on the floor with 2 other guys who are not outside threats. He works well at SF with Ryno at the 4.

I honestly think our best chance to keep a solid record until Davis returns is to start Aminu and Anderson at the 3/4 and bring Reke off the bench.

His D and rebounding make him a valuable guy. He really is.

And everyone is spot on. His problem at the 4 would be the big guys. But in some situations I think it would work. The next couple of weeks are going to take some creativity with the lineups.

We absolutely have to keep a guy who can wear his hair in a bun on the roster. Sorry.

Aminu needs to continue to come off the bench. He is not ready to be a starter in the NBA.
