Binoculars--What's your brand?

Looking to replace a pair of Nikon's that have been sub par. Looking to spend $400-$500. Maybe a little more if there is a big enough difference in quality. What does the OB recommend?

I honestly don't use them where I hunt in TN. I always thought they would be good, but I can see as far as I feel comfortable shooting in my woods. Plus, I like to travel light. Rifle and one small pouch that hangs on my belt is all I generally take. I don't even wear a big coat, just lots of layers. I will keep my pullover tied around my waist while I'm walking in and an extra paid of socks in my pocket to put on once I get into the stand. I hate breaking a sweat walking to the stand and then getting cold. Maybe I should give some thought to a good small set of binocs...

I have a pair of Leupolds that I rarely use. They were a gift. Think they were 2-300$. Nothing snazzy, but gets the job done. I usually just use my scope to identify targets.

i have a pair of Cabela's that i found in the bargain cave 4-5 years back for 50% off..
they are awesome..
the only thing wrong was some white over-spray was on them.. i've hunted with them so many times, there are no more little white specs for me to flick off.

Steiners.
Unbelievable clarity.
I think i paid 350 used and would do again if needed.

Steiner Merlin 10x50. They are a little bulky, but for the price are the best I've ever owned.

What kind of nikons have been sub par?

I have a pair of Pentax DCF Wp in 8x42. I think they are a really high quality pair of glasses. Love mine.

I use Zeiss but I have also checked out some of the Leupolds that were pretty darn clear.

Why don't you like yours?

Nikon and Steiner, nikons are lighter and better suited for La hunting.

When I finish my 308, Ill probably try and trade it for a set of Bushnell Fusion 1600s, get a laser range finder and binos all in one. Then I can sell my rangefinder.
