Dothan, AL to Woonsocket, SD
21 hours 5 people and 2 dogs
Bout to lay some lead into some pheasants
2 words:
Legal roadhunting

Report:
Coldest it's ever been
Wed: 24 birds Beautiful weather, could have worn a tshirt

Thrs:12 birds 2" snow 30mph winds right in the face

Fri:14 Birds Cold but no wind or snow had some great drives

8 people. Rookies did not help, lost some birds due to poor marking. Dogs were good for about 30% of them, I'd say we didn't recover about 12-14. The main reason we drove was to bring our "duck" dogs. By day three they were doing awesome getting about 25 yards ahead and working the grasses/corn/milo. Was awesome watching them work.

2012 Album (A lot Warmer)

Sounds like fun. The hunting, not the 21 hour drive.

Speaking of the Dakotas, does geauxsmoke still post here?

I was always told this was called "Arkansas Style."

Nevertheless, I'm a fan of it, especially with pheasants. Good luck.

I just got back yesterday from our annual trip to Kimball, SD. Great times as always.

Thank god I didn't have to drive. We usually send one guy with all our gear and guns and the rest of us fly.

Eta: we killed over 300 as a group. (Not so subtle brag)

It's great. Last time I came back from a trip up there (NE Kansas) I had it all planned out by the time I got home. Walked in the door and laid out the whole plan to my wife about how we were moving up there, homeschooling the kids, living off pennies, becoming farmers, etc.

Then as she looked at me with total disappointment I realized I had not thought out my plan as well as I thought. My planning was all influenced by the abundance of large and incredibly stupid animals up there.

They have giant squirrels and rabbits up there. Last time we went, cooked a squirrel and rabbit gravy for the hosts..... The freaked out. Said they were gonna start squirrel and rabbit hunting. Never had before and never considered eating them. Delish

We taught them how to make grits, at this little diner in town, next year we came back, still on menu, but they put a cup of sugar in them

Funny. We hauled a large pot of seafood gumbo up there with us, made a pheasant/andouille jambalaya, and cooked them squirrel/rabbit gravy with biscuits. They had never eaten so good..z call us every year an ask when we will come back.

My cousin just got back from a duck trip to North Dakota. They smoked some serious mallards on public land.
