Boudin Cookoff Results, Thoughts, Ponderings

There were a number of heavy hitting boudin houses that were glaringly absent from the Boudin Cookoff this year: Best Stop, Don's, Nu Nu's, Billeaud's, Billy's, Poche's are ones that immediately come to mind. Ville Platte showed up this year and Paul's from the Chatagnier Hwy brought a homestyle link that was stuffed uncooked, then steamed. I was told this was the preferred method years ago. His homestyle link was a winner imo.
T-Boy brought his A game as expected and didn't disappoint. His traditional link was outstanding and his jalapeno link was superb.
Ronnie's in Baton Rouge, which is originally Ronnie's from Opelousas presented two excellent choices, their traditional link and Ronnie's smoked link were excellent. My favorite was Ronnie's smoked link..

My thoughts exactly. Missed th usual big names. Was looking forward to Billy's, but they weren't there.
I agree, T-boy's was the best. Jim's a close second.
Didn't like the boudin from Cottonport or Eunice Superette.
Ran into MapGuy. Ham was there, but didn't see him.
The weather was perfect and the event was well-attended. The big names should have been there though.

I wish I knew y'all were there, we could've had a beer. I was supposed to meet up with Ham but got there too late.

It was my first time going, and I was disappointed by the no shows. That said, I thought early's smoked boudin was as good or better than tboys. I tried them all, and those were the only two I would go out of my way to purchase.

I'd put down a sizable bet that t boys won. One of the best entries plus free coozies, stickers, etc = 1st place.

No best stop, no Billy's, no NuNu's, no Poche's, no care
I wanted to see who would win of those

I'd like to know why all of those big name places boycotted. Poche's is my go to fwiw.

There is no need for the big boys to enter. they already have their names and reputations established. All it does it put their names on the line for the new guys to try to beat down, and if they do, well...can say my boudin was the best out of Nunu, Dons, Best Stop.
Poches shouldn't ever show up...boudin has sucked for years. and cracklins are even worse.

I agree that the big boys have their names established and it would only hurt by being compared to others and possibly lose to another "house".
Which may be a signal for the Boudin Cookoff folks, for the Cookoff to perpetuate, maybe it's not such a good idea to have a competition and instead, just have all the boudin makers sell and advertise their products and stores. Just a thought.

I've gotta agree with you about their boudin. Like the plate lunches. I've never had the cracklins. But the boudin...much to be desired, especially with all the pub it seems they get.

So anyone got results on the winner?

Boudin Cookoff Results
I agree about Poche's boudin. I also agree about the cook-off. Have a boudin tasting and maybe an amateur cook-off.

I asked one of the owners of the stores that competed and placed in the Cookoff and she told me, "It's just a lot of work." Preparing the different varieties and handling them so that they present a quality product is time consuming and labor intensive. Plus, if the owners run the meat market, that means leaving their place of business on a Saturday to be an exhibitor,or allocating valuable resources to the competition.
Additionally, there's the Boudin Festival in Scott which is a major production. All of the houses are represented there. So they may just pick which event they want to dedicate their efforts to, and do their best for that one. Sounds plausible to me.. Congrats to all the exhibitors and the winners on their quality product.
