How will this impact National Forests in MS and LA? Will this be carte blanche to poach?

Poach? I'd pick a better spot if I were gonna poach.

Aren't game wardens funded by the state?

I know the green jeans in my area were probably as thick as mosquitoes at the NWR here this morning hoping to catch some folks

I saw where all the NWRs in my area were closed, but not the state refuges.

Do Green Jeans have jurisdiction to patrol National Forests and can they write there? Are they going to pick up the slack for the Fed game wardens who are furloughed?

That is good. I was worried it was going to be a slaughter on all of the NFs with people gun hunting this week during bow season and shooting everything that moved.

It's just political grandstanding. Outfitters and operators in some national forests can't operate now because of the furlough. Tourist season is over here, so I don't give a rats arse whether Forest Svc. personnel are working or not because access to 99% of the things I use will still be available.

They are HEAVILY hunted in LA and MS so it will have a big impact on this area if they are shut down on the opening day of archery season. It will also have a big impact if there are no wardens there as everything that walks or crawls has the potential to be slaughtered by some.

Yep. My uncle was at his camp on cat island rd and said you should've seen the amount of wardens patrolling the area.

The government shutdown will temporarily close the Black Bayou National Wildlife Refuge, and workers say it couldn’t have come at a worse time.
Hunting season begins for bow hunters Tuesday, but those who rely on the area’s wildlife refuges for their hunting will have to find somewhere else to go.
Refuge Manager Brett Hortman said all public use areas — including trails, boat ramps and hunting areas — will close at Black Bayou, D’Arbonne, Upper Ouachita and Handy Brake national wildlife refuges. He said 17 people work at those locations, and 12 of them will be on furloughs.
Hortman said he’s hoping the shutdown will be temporary, but he’s taking steps to notify hunters in case they can’t get to their stands.
“We’re going to try to put up signs and notify people as best we can,” Hortman said. “I know they’re going to be upset and it’s bad timing, but it’s out of our control.”

Will have no affect in this area. Visitors centers may be closed but local folks don't go there anyway.

NWR just outside of Starkville was closed in the government shutdown back in 95-96.
I imagine they will all be shutdown now as well.
