McCain's "Pravda" Op-Ed isn't for the real Pravda

Not today's news- hadn't seen it and pretty sure it hasn't made the rounds here.

Get a load of this silliness
quote:

McCain, a vocal proponent of increased U.S. intervention in Syria, said in an interview on CNN’s “The Lead” that he was “offended” and joked he would like to be able to write an op-ed of his own for the Russian newspaper Pravda.

McCain seemed to get his wish on Friday when the editors of Pravda told a blog affiliated with Foreign Policy magazine they’d be happy to consider an op-ed submission by the senator. McCain told reporters on Sunday that such an opinion piece is currently in the works.

The only problem? McCain is working with the wrong Pravda.

The Pravda that McCain had in mind is one of the oldest Russian newspapers, founded in 1912...

The editors of that paper denied they had any plans to publish a McCain op-ed.

Pravda.ru, which McCain is in talks with through Foreign Policy magazine, is an electronic news website founded in 1999
. Even though the website also bears the name Pravda, it is not connected to Pravda newspaper. The website has English and Russian editions and covers everything from politics to fashion and celebrities.

The irony here is the Russian word "pravda" means "truth."

OK. People may dislike Obama on this board. But honestly, what would the country have looked like foreign relations wise and economically if McCain won in 2008?

Not sure what is so funny? Pravda the newspaper probably reaches far fewer people than Pravda.ru, Pravda the newspaper like the times picayune publishes three times a week and claims about the same circulation, in reality it is perhaps significantly less.

McCain is out of his mind. Talk about hypocrtie.

quote:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for siding with "tyrannies," perpetuating bigotry, censoring the media and endorsing the Syrian regime in an opinion piece published on Russian news site Pravda.

In the op-ed, titled "Russians deserve better than Putin," McCain claimed he's "more pro-Russian" than the country's own leaders.

"I make that claim because I respect your dignity and your right to self-determination," he wrote. "I believe you should live according to the dictates of your conscience, not your government. I believe you deserve the opportunity to improve your lives in an economy that is built to last and benefits the many, not just the powerful few."

I finally just read it too. what a freaking loon he is.

quote:

Since my purpose here is to dispel falsehoods used by Russia's rulers to perpetuate their power and excuse their corruption, let me begin with that untruth. I am not anti-Russian. I am pro-Russian, more pro-Russian than the regime that misrules you today.

quote:

President Putin claims his purpose is to restore Russia to greatness at home and among the nations of the world. But by what measure has he restored your greatness? He has given you an economy that is based almost entirely on a few natural resources that will rise and fall with those commodities. Its riches will not last. And, while they do, they will be mostly in the possession of the corrupt and powerful few.

quote:

How has he strengthened Russia's international stature? By allying Russia with some of the world's most offensive and threatening tyrannies.

quote:

President Putin doesn't believe in these values because he doesn't believe in you. He doesn't believe that human nature at liberty can rise above its weaknesses and build just, peaceful, prosperous societies. Or, at least, he doesn't believe Russians can. So he rules by using those weaknesses, by corruption, repression and violence. He rules for himself, not you.

Again, sounds exactly like what we have at home.

Sounds like he's describing U.S. Gov't there, and many politicians here at home.

Russia governance is nothing like the US, even if Obama is the worst President in the history of the Republic, and McCain is pond scum.

I also believe this, but, it is getting more and more difficult to do so.
