Madrid finished 3rd, Istanbul was the runner-up.

Istanbul was getting lots of hype a year ago. I figured Tokyo would get it though. Middle East is a scary place and Spain is broke.

Istanbul would be a dreadful city for Olympics for many many many reasons.

They cheered louder than most football crowds when they won.

Tokyo is objectively the best choice, but I hate the time zone differences

Istanbul would have been a great venue, anyone comparing it to the Middle East that is reported in the news is a half retarded redneck.

I may have to go to this. I've always wanted to visit Japan. I've also always wanted to go to the Olympics.

Seems like combining the two makes it reason enough to go.

This would be awesome to go to

Even more awesome if there wasn't a crumbling nuclear power plant just 140 miles up the road

While I agree with you, I just don't know if Turkey has enough money to host the Games and not fall into an economic recession afterwards. I imagine there would be a lot of debt financing for everything besides the soccer, basketball, volleyball, and track facilities.

The Gezi protests certainly didn't help the bid, but as you can see from my signature, I don't have a problem with that

A US city has to win in 2024, right?

Oh god, they would be indebted to the hilt, but that haven't stopped the Turks before. Truthfully I trust them more than the Japs to make it work. The Spainards? Lololololol

Most expensive Olympics ever. London was bad. This will be worse.

possible we get an opening ceremony to rival China at least this time. London was nice, but the Beijing ceremonies were unearthly. I am curious to see how Rio stacks up, but I think Japan will feel like they have to beat the Beijing games.
