Enough of the Lebron/Kobe/Durant lists.
Pretend you are an NBA GM/coach. For your team, you can pick two (2) of these players. Pretend they are all in their prime. Who do you pick? A short explanation of your selections is encouraged.
John Starks
Detlef Schrempf
Xavier McDaniel
Rik Smits
Derrick McKey
Dan Majerle
Horace Grant
Ricky Pierce
Vinnie Johnson
Kevin Willis
Wayman Tisdale
Anthony Mason
Nick Anderson
Muggsy Bogues
Terrell Brandon
Rony Seikaly
Fat Lever
Terry Porter
Jeff Hornacek
Kenny Anderson

It would depend on what the rest of your team, I wouldn't want to build a team around any of them. But there are a hell of a lot 3 options on that list.

Porter-tough relentless leader
Detlef-all around game,white man's Pippen
Detlef-all around game,white man's Pippen

Fat Lever- Incredible in his prime, basically a walking triple-double.
Nick Anderson- Good all-around game
Nick Anderson- Good all-around game

I'm surprised no one said Schrempf yet. The best player on the list, IMO. For the second, I would take Kevin Willis. Decent defense. Good rebounder, and hook shot.

great thread....Detlef was versatile and had a nice stroke, good vision, high bball IQ.I honestly think he is the best player on the list..by a hair over a handful of others.
Porter is probably my next pick, but I can be talked into Brandon, Smits or Willis.

Detlef and John Starks
That would be a tough combo to stop

Jeff Hornacek
Great shooter who can get his own shot as well
edit- I want Horace Grant instead of Mason.
Grant is an ideal complementary 4 for the modern game. Athletic, can rebound, and has a jump shot teams have to respect

Great thread. Not sure how you came up with the list of players, but it's an interesting mix of flawed players.
I'll throw out two separate combos:
Anderson-Schrempf and XMan-Hornacek
Mainly, I go for complimentary skills here. Schrempf and X-Man are the two best players on the list, but they would need a different kind of supporting player.
Schrempf had a nice stroke and had a nose for the rebound, but he lacked that mean streak. He was a skill guy more than anything, but he wasn't known for creating on his own and taking guys off the ball. Pair him with a gifted point guard like Anderson, who also had a mean streak a mile wide. Starks also had that mean streak, but man, he hated sharing the rock.
McDaniel is one of the meanest, most badass m'fers who ever played the game. He's about the only guy on this list who could go toe to toe with Anthony Mason, who lacked any discernable skills other than being a thug. Pair him with a nice spot shooter like Hornacek, who could hit it from anywhere. He scored 20 PPG on 50% shooting. Let the X-Man penetrate, and kick it out to the spot shooter.

Actually, I came up with the idea catching about 15 minutes the other night of Bulls/Suns NBA Finals reruns on NBA TV (1993?). Just rejogged my memory of a bunch of players I haven't thought of in forever.
