The last few weeks I've fished with some people I've never fished with before and they acted like they had never heard of Rat L Traps. A buddy and I have killed bass and reds this year with them having one morning where we caught 40+ in a private pond and 90+ in manchac. Just curious if anyone else fishes them hard like us.

I have occasionally but they fish you as much as you fish them. I mostly throw them in early spring as water is starting to warm for largemouth and through out the spring for large hybrids when there is a crowd working the same school.

using a 7:1 ratio reel or at least 6.3:1?

7:1. I just found it hard to believe some people have never used them. My favorite thing to do is flip jigs or fish soft plastics but lately it's been hard to put the RT down.

The transition is hard for me. cat crank crank crank . change rods and I end up fishing my soft plastic way to fast.

I use em to find the fish. Pretty good when you're looking for new spots.

Never caught Specs with them. What color do they like?

Beat up chrome. Thrown in the driveway for 20 casts the night before. Sometimes I put red touch up paint on their underbelly. Just a little

The academy knockoff trap comes in a purple with a gold belly we did well with last fall on bass, specks and reds. I like that little one in golden shiner in fall/winter for specs too. Summer I chunk hot pink/chrome or blue/chrome around the rigs to locate them.

RatLTraps are one thing I've always had in my box but have never really committed to using them. I've always had about 2-3 but I recently inherited about 15, all different colors, from my father in law because he doesn't fish anymore. I might try them for specks in the winter. I generally target reds and I have my go to baits for them but want to expand my skills so will have them available.

My go to search bait usually. I know a lot of guys that only throw them certain times of the year, I keep one tied on just about year round. I like the strike king red eye shad in crawfish for spring, any lipless crankbait for everything else, chrome/blue for summer, and a ghost shad for fall/winter. 6:3:1 for everything except spring, then I throw it on a 7:1 with braid.

ETA: All freshwater FWIW

I very rarely fish them. I know they were all the rage in the 90s. Maybe I need to try then more.

This happens every couple of years when it gets very hot and little rain. All the stars have to align but does occur

I keep one (or similar bair of a different brand) tied on pretty much all year. My favorite time to throw one is in January and February over emergent hydrilla. You can catch a big sack doong this.If fish are schooling, it's hard to beat. The biggest drawback to this type of bait is its easy to lose fish on.
