I want to get a credit card so I can start building some sort of credit. Will only use it for gas and groceries. I'm interested in building rewards points as well. Any good suggestions are appreciated.

If you can't pay in full each month, don't apply.

Chase Freedom starting out. What's your income? Any credit history?

Doesn't sound like you plan on a lot of travel soon so go for a cash back card.

BOA has one that offers more cash back on exactly the items you mention + no annual fee.

ETA: Chase Freedom is also really good but I think you have to tell it what you want more cash back on each quarter (i.e. "rotating categories").

You don't tell it what categories you want cash back on. Those are chosen for every body.

You do, however, have to activate it. They send you an email, it takes maybe 3 clicks and 10 seconds to do.

50-60k depends on MBO bonuses.

No credit history, no debt.

Apply for a few cards within seconds of each other.

Shoot for Chase Sapphire Preferred.

I just went through this. I got a Chase Saphire Preferred which gives a great sign up bonus and 2x pts on travel and dining. My wife got the LSU platinum MasterCard. No sign up bonus, but 2x pts on gas and groceries. No annual fee and accepted at Sam's.
