Took the youngun to see bears, she is really into them right now. Sockeye are entering Steep Creek and bears are everywhere.

Steep Creek is born on top of Thunder Mountain, you can see the waterfall in the background. It's cold, clear snowmelt. The beaver dam in the foreground creates a nice pond for them to accumulate in before beginning their spawn upcreek

Area where bears prowl the creek before it empties into Mendenhall Lake

It's fun to watch them fish. When we first got to the stream a large female bear jumped from behind the bush and ambushed a sockeye, then wandered off into the woods. The 5 year old really got a kick out of it.

The object of their affection

The OT loves pit bulls.

The only thing worse than a pit bull over there is a democratic homeless person.

These are pretty docile bears. Going to Fish Creek tomorrow and the bears are a bit more aggressive there. Not quite as cute and cuddly.

I missed a sow do a full flying belly flop from about 10' up a bluff by about 2 seconds. Saw her flying and hit the creek but didn't have the camera ready. She found her fish and disappeared after that. Would have been the picture of a lifetime.

She's leaving the creek here. Just missed it.

Roger, you should be fly fishing for salmon. Are you close to Bristol Bay? How do you like living in Alaska? Nice pics!

Going around noon, it's just past 8 here. I have an old friend arriving by cruise ship today, gonna take him and his wife fly fishing on a local stream.

Nah, about 800 miles away. Juneau sits on the US/Canadian border in the panhandle.

Really love it. Living is easy up here. Very relaxed, great people and so many things to do outdoors.
