Just opened in the old Rice Epicurean space on Holcombe and Kirby. With Central Market/HEBs and Whole Foods being cheaper and having a much better selection and Trader Joes carrying the same snack type foods, I don't know how this place sees competing in Houston.

I don't see it either. Especially the one at Westheimer and Weslayan, right across the street from Central Market.

The Rice Epicurean folks figured out that they couldn't compete with all the other chains, so they decided to lease out most of their spaces to Fresh Market. We'll see how Fresh Market does in the same locations.

I'm sure they will do fine. They have good prepared foods and it's smaller and easier to get around than an HEB or whole foods.

I liked Fresh Market when I first got to Baton Rouge, but the longer I've lived here, the more I've come to realize that just about everything they do, Whole Foods does better.

Why go anywhere other than Hong Kong Market?

Because Hong Kong Market is dirty as frick and smells like the Khmer Rouge killing fields.

If I need ethnic foods its Pheonicia, Super H, or Ranch 99. I'll go to Chinatown to eat but I doubt I'll step foot in the market again after last weekend. Alpha Bakery is really the only reason to go to the mall anyway.

A Fresh Market is going up on San Felipe near Sage. Randalls is only competition in immediate vicinity.

Great place, go to the one downtown all the time.

I'm sure once the newness wears off it will change, but I have driven by after work the past 2 days and the parking lot looked pretty much at capacity.

It's convenient but I wish the downtown location would do something about the freshness of their meats. Driving all the way out to the original market is a pain in the arse.
