Let them get married so they will become better people? That's the point?

What people who are pushing for gay marriage don't get about churches is that churches are there to set moral boundaries. Those boundaries should not twist in the wind to suit the latest polling data.

God gave us Ten Commandments, not a few pretty good ideas that we ought to try once in a while when it's convenient for us.

did not watch.
Do you realize that homosexuality is condemned in the Bible, which is the guide for Christianity?

I understand that there are those that wish to re-interpret the Bible to align with progressive thought, but that does not make it so.

I am not saying we should go all muslim and kill homosexuals, as a libertarian, I could care less what people do at home. However, that does not change the tenants of the faith.

Yeah, that's a terrible argument.

My argument has been that the government is lying, violent and deceitful, and the church should have nothing to do with it. It's not the proper medium for the gospel.

This is another argument by a pastor (I haven't read the whole thing, but the points I've read are good):

Men who lay with men and women who lay with women (the latter as hot as it may be) is an abomination. It is an excusable sin but only if truly repented.

Call it whatever you want and give them whatever government benefits you want (bc of the separation of church and state) but you cant call it marriage.

For people within the church, yes. The state is not an extension of the church.

The church is not an extension of the state either, but it's about to change.

Naah... his argument is bad. A church is entitled to believe whether a gay marriage makes a person better or not.

The ACTUAL important point they don't get was expressed by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (NY):

“It’s very important to understand that people can believe what they want. They can go to what church they want, what synagogue, what they can believe what about temple, what mosque. Marriage or anything else they want. That’s a question of religious belief. We’re not dealing with religious belief in all these questions. We’re dealing with what the state or the federal government does. We have a separation of church and state in this country. So for government purposes, you can be married. The church may not recognize this. That’s their business. If you don’t want to recognize it from a religious point of view, it’s your business. No one is forcing anybody to get married. The point of the separation of church and state is that when we deal with public business and the consecration — not the consecration, but the celebration of marriage by the state, the recognition by the state of who’s married is not a religious question.”

For one thing, the government shouldn't decide who can and cannot get married in the first place. Leave it to individual churches. If a homosexual couple finds a church willing to perform the ceremony then good for them. But churches are not obligated to marry same sex couples.

quote:

Men who lay with men and women who lay with women (the latter as hot as it may be) is an abomination. It is an excusable sin but only if truly repented.

Call it whatever you want and give them whatever government benefits you want (bc of the desperation if church and state) but you can't call it marriage.

I'm sure you wrote that comment wearing clothing made from only one fabric, right?

For everyone? I think not, buddy.

Besides, given their track record I don't think they're qualified to establish any kind of moral framework.

I bet he's cut the hair that grows on the side of his head, though. So there.

The problem is the fact that the state recognizes who's married. It's none of their damn business.

Looks like you are doing some re-interpreting of your own:

"'If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." Leviticus 20:13
