Renting A Car For 1-2 Days Tops--Where to Get Best Deal?

I'm going to Vegas with the GF in a few months and I was hoping to rent a car to drive out to Hoover Dam and maybe check out some other places not on the strip.
I've been told by several people to rent a car instead of taking a tour b/c I can "rent a car for probably like $30/day" Everyone says this, but upon just randomly checking some places like Budget, Alamo, etc. I don't see any cars for $30/day and I'm looking at the cheapest cars they got. Seems like the average is about $65-$70 day. Is this the norm or am I missing the good deals somehow? Or are most people out of touch with how much renting a car really costs?

Priceline. Only way you're gonna get a really low rate is to rent a Festiva or some other small shitty car.

Better factor in costs to park your car each night as well.

Thought of this, but was told that almost every hotel/casino on the strip has free parking. Will probably only need it for 1 day as in pick up at 8am and drop back off at 5pm, but may consider keeping overnight if there is something else we want to check out.

Sounds like I'll be trying Priceline. Should I book it now or wait until closer to the trip just in case we have to cancel for some reason. I've never used Priceline, but I know most of the travel sites don't allow cancellations or if they do, fees are involved.

Enterprise or Budget, but it may be more of a PITA than it's worth.

Rental car prices vary widely by destination (demand).

Take hotel elevator to lobby. Rent car. I paid around $30 to ride out to Hoover for a 1 day rental with unlimited mileage.

$30-$50 is what I was hoping for. What hotel were you at? We'll be at MGM. I'm not sure if they have a rental place in there or not. Guess I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the tip

Hotwire usually has good prices, but you can't change or cancel your reservation at all.

Also, where are you doing drop off and pick up? It seems like it's often cheaper at airport locations, but then you're probably going to have to pay for transportation to/from your hotel.

Priceline name your own price. I rented a charger in Nola this weekend for $13/day

Enterprise. They're the biggest for a reason. Less bull shite and hidden fees than a fly-by-night operation like Fox Rent A Car (personal experience).

I flew into Tampa last week with a reservation for a full size ($18 a day) and casually asked the desk girl if they had a Wrangler available. They did, and gave it to me for $35/day - half the normal price - with no negotiation. Then again, I'm very good looking...

Just checked Enterprise' site: they have cars from $31/day.

Hotwire is the only answer. You won't know the company but you'll know it's at the airport and what size car you're getting. You will save a ton.

I rented recently through Avis for $20 a day but we got that rate because we rented through our LLC.
