GoT Mhysa scene opinions?

Everyone seemed to unanimously hate this scene. I just rewatched the episode, and I still enjoyed it (liked the scene the first time around too).
Yea maybe they had set a precedent for the supernatural endings the first two seasons (and there was one in particular book readers know that would have worked) but I thought the Dany being accepted as "Mother" scene worked really well.
It was a little heavy handed, sure, but I thought it closed out her arc this season well enough, and even dating back to the first season when she essentially lost everything protecting the slaves. Also, it provided some hope for the future of Westeros in light of the previous episode's events....

I realize this season was 10 eps for half a book, instead of 10 for a whole book, but outside of 1 episode (that I thought was so over the top it was funny in a Pineapple Express ultra-gore sorta way), season 3 was weak overall.
There hasn't been anything yet that even comes close to the arc that Tyrion had in Season 2.

I'm starting to get a little perturbed at the diversions from the source material. The Harry Potter movies started making big changes in the 3rd movie and left out major parts. I have a feeling that is what is happening here. GRRM is in full sell out mode. Oh well, I enjoyed the season nevertheless.

That scene was there for a purpose
-Give Danny some screen time
-ominous outgoing music score
-flying dragons
-wide shot
It was very forced.....Bran's scene walking north of the wall would have served just about as much purpose

I'm not talking individual episodes, I'm talking story.
The most interesting story that happened this whole season happened off camera
How did Tywinn, Roose Bolton, and Walder Frey put together the RW. That is infinitely more interesting than just watching the set piece where the act was carried out, but we got to see none of it. I realize seeing the planning and plotting would ruin the "oh shite" moment, but those moments aren't what have ever made the show good.

I'm glad they didn't ruin one of the most shocking scenes in TV history. But that's just me.

Totally agree. I thought the scene was lame as shite and was an awful way to end the season. Honestly, I thought this entire season was the weakest of the three so far. And that's not a good sign when shows like The Wire, The Sopranos and even Boardwalk Empire all improved tremendously from season to season.

I liked the scene overall, but admit the two second crowd surf came off as kind of cheese. It was only a couple seconds long, but it really blew up people's opinions. Take out the couple seconds of Dany at Lollapalooza, and I really liked how the the last scene paralleled the end of the first season finale.
How come Neo getting carried off is fricking stupid, but Maximus getting carried off is badass?
Eta: hell, I liked that the season ended on an up note. There aren't many wins on GoT.

A sign of what?
Most considered season just as good as the other two. Per Metacritic, it's more critically acclaimed than season one.

I'm cautiously optimistic since it was in theory the first half of the book instead of the whole book, but season 3 seems to be where the truly great shows start kicking arse and taking names, and this season of GoT wasn't even on the same planet as 2 for me.

That said, it was still a good season and enough episodes had climactic endings that a non-climactic ending to episode 10 didn't bother me.
I do wish the creators would have decided on a different format than 10 episode seasons. We don't get to see some of the depth you mention.

Well, a sign of perhaps the show taking a step back rather than improving season-to-season. One thing I've been thinking about is how much more expensive GoT must be to make as opposed to actor-centric shows like The Sopranos and The Wire. With GoT so dependent on CGI and extravagant sets you can't help but wonder if the quality of the show will ultimately suffer from the production costs...
