This stuff is really fricking annoying. I am not familiar with this type of weed (only the illegal kind ) so any help would be appreciated. I've been removing it by hand but it is rapidly growing more and more all over the lawn.

I don't even care about the short, unattractive part of it. It is the tall, thin stalk that is driving me crazy.

I get it occasionally, the best remedy I have found is to dig up the entire rootball and plant and put some topsoil/sand mixture in the hole.

1.5 oz Southern Weed B gone mixed with 1 gallon of water. Saturate the weed. Never pull them. Wen you pull them you end up dropping more seeds which in return will spread.

I need to post a pic of the damn dead spots in my yard. I really need to dethatch to get a better idea about it, though.

I got the feeling this was happening as it seriously seemed like the weeds doubled over night

What's all this about? Seemed like a northern thing when I was looking at new blades for my lawnmower on Amazon.

Set hatching really depends on what type of lawn to determine the importance of dethatching. I have centipede sod that is roughly 2 months old and just like all new sod you have spots of thatching.

Basically, it's like a comb that you run over your yard. It pulls out most of the dead undergrowth or thatch. You really don't need it if you have decent grass. My yard is a mixture of trash that the developer planted. The St. Augustine is slowing taking over, though.

I'll start sodding once I finally get the damn yard leveled and draining properly.

Probably what Lion4life said. Its a grass obviously, so you have to be careful that your weed killer will not kill what you want - bermuda or st aug for ex.
Its a tuff weed and certain digging and pulling is not the solution. BUT st aug will overgrow it if its healthy and you keep it somewhat under control.

I kill with roundup. The St. Aug comes back and covers in no time.

I have this problem in certain spots in my yard. It grows so much faster than my St aug grass making the yard look terrible if I don't cut every 3 days or so. Ive looked around online, but it doesn't look like there's anything that will kill it without harming the St aug. I read that you just have to cut it before the seed stalks grow and let the St aug take over. But again, its hard to cut your grass 3 times week!

Spray it with round-up. When it's good and dead put some sand down.
