What does the outdoor board say is the best of the higher end coolers. I know about Igloo Yukon/Great White, Yetti, and just heard about K-2 out of Lafayette. What is your guys opinions? Academy had a Igloo 250 Great White a while back for $199 on closeout. Brother saw it online and was indecisive. Went back a little while later and they were sold out. Also is it really worth it to buy a cooler that can hold ice for 7+ days. Might be better off getting a $100 Igloo and calling it a day instead of buy a high end one for $500-$600 min.

Pelican's are very nice too. Little less than a Yeti.

For most people, a Coleman Extreme or the Igloo Maxcold is enough. The only reason to buy a higher end cooler would be for longevity or because that $300 is burning a hole in your pocket.

If you plan on weekend camping/fishing trips where you don't have easy access to ice, then it makes sense to buy a cooler that will keep ice for longer than a couple days.

I fall into the middle of the above two categories; I want something that will last and while it is not every week, I do take long weekend trips camping and/or fishing and I would prefer not to have to stop for ice every single day.

My take on the high end coolers:
Yeti- overpriced and undersized (their 45qt is closer to 35qt volume) Props to their marketing team for making people think this is the end all/be all of coolers

K2- cheaper, but it shows. Just not the best quality mold.

Pelican- far and away the best construction. Thick plastic, uniform foam insulation, built like a tank. Unfortunately, it is also almost as heavy as one. I bought one a couple months ago and was impressed with everything but it's weight. (45qt was #36 on my scale. . .empty) Returned it.

Brute Outdoors- ordered one last week and got it a few days ago. Not as seamless as the Pelican, but better than the K2 as far as build quality and on par if not better than the Yeti. Supposedly has more insulation than the Yeti as well, for a good bit less $. Brute is coming out with a wheel kit as well, along with alot of other accessories that may be worthwhile.

Engel- no experience with one

Pelican progear elite coolers. Way sturdier latches and handle than a Yeti and cheaper. Is a little heavier but all of the high end ones are heavy.

Become friends with someone who gets prodeals like a guide or outdoor retail worker and they arn't that bad. I wouldn't pay full price for any of them

Even without knowing someone who can get a discount, you can regularly find them online for 35-40% off.

I paid $175 shipped for my 45qt ($300 retail)

As for weight, the Pelicans are a bit excessive. Lugging a 36# ice chest around got old fast. After food/drinks and ice was added, it was a chore. All the other coolers are heavy too compared to the thin walled Colemans and Igloos, but the Pelican is easily 10-15 lbs heavier than a comparable Yeti 45 (22#) or Brute 50 (24#).

I agree the pelican is heavier but that is because it is better built imo. The latches and handles are way better constructed.

We use it purely to keep ice when we go camping - beer and food go in smaller coolers that will be opened/closed frequently and ice gets transfered from the Pelican as needed.

You will find no argument from me on this; Pelican has made yet another great product. Had it not been for that one issue, I would still own one.

Any opinions on Grizzly coolers. Brother is looming for a good duck hunting cooler. Wanted either a yeti or grizzly. Grizzly seemed like a better deal shopping amazon prime. Thanks, subscribed.

Very similar to the Pelican.

Lifetime warranty, more of a cube shape than a rectangle. Where do you live? Cabela's has some in the store if you wanted to look them over in person.

I didn't see any on Amazon Prime though. . . only ones available on Prime were the Pelican, Yukon and Moeller coolers.

B'ham. He was wanting one but is holding off. I'll likely get him one for Christmas. Thanks. Definitely want to put hands on whatever I get him even if I buy it online.

When I was in montana they had a brand called "Grizzley" if I'm not mistaken. It Looked like a yeti type. I haven't seen that brand often though so idk if its new or just not good.
