Recs for Nashville trip next month

I live here in Nashville.

One place has been mentioned already, take the beautiful trip out Hwy 100 to the Loveless Cafe for brunch. Everyone raves about their biscuits, and they're great, but there is much much more.

Honestly, Nashville has some very good restaurants - but no "can't miss" restaurants. It pails in comparison to Charleston, NOLA, and Richmond.

I saw this list this past weekend and don't disagree with much that's on here.

Whiskey Kitchen for great bourbon/whiskey tastings and food

For drinks, go to the Patterson House - it was recommended to me on this Board when I went up for the LSU game a few years ago. It's hard to find, as it's a former speakeasy and they still style it as such - no sign outside the building, and you have to wait behind a curtain before the barmaid will find you a seat. Some of the best bartenders you can find in there - cool experience.

*If I recall correctly, it's on a side street near Music Row - not difficult to drive to, just took us a few minutes to find the building

Honestly, Nashville's food scene is very much in its infancy. There are some very good places, but it needs time to mature.

Go drive through Belle Meade. Drive down Belle Meade Blvd and take the short loop around Percy Warner Park. Its a beautiful view.

The Warner Parks (Percy and Edwin Warner Parks) are beautiful. Those parks consume 2700 acres in the Southwest portion of Nashville. Cheekwood is right off Percy Warner Park and has some great gardens. Its beautiful

If you are in the least bit interested in history Nashville is your kind of place. There are some great historical sites to see! Several civil war battle fields and forts are close to downtown. The Hermitage (Pres Jackson's home and grounds) is a short drive from downtown and is spectacular.

The state capitol building is the second oldest capitol in continuous use in the country.

There are some beautiful views. Nashville is covered with beautiful rolling hills.

The Radnor Lake area is spectacular. Its a man made lake (Park surrounding it). The original intent was to use the lake for the steam engines at radnor rail yards. Once steam engines died off the area was donated to the park system.

Other than the downtown area, Nashville isn't a great walking town. It's also not a great cab town and public transportation sucks. So if you wanna see a lot of Nashville you will need a car.

The Stockyard is fine. Its a steak place downtown. It largely caters to tourists and "date nights". Personally I think it is wildly overpriced and the service can be sketchy.

There are better steak places in Nashville. If I am going out for steak I go to Jimmy Kelley's or Sperry's. Those are two old school steak joints where the service is spot on and they aren't gouging tourists and men looking to impress ladies.
