We are trying to find a new place to rent in Baton Rouge and want a decent non-urban neighborhood and most of the rents are in the $1200-1400 range for a 3br/2ba. Is this too much? We only want to live in BR for another year.

That's pretty solid for a 3 bd

For only one year that is very reasonable in that market.

In southdowns that's a good deal.

Yeah, there are no "urban" parts of Baton Rouge. There is plenty of hood with a smattering of trailer park, but no "urban".

And 1200-1400 sounds about right unless you want to stay in the aforementioned hoods and trailer parks.

I just hate putting that much money into RENT when I could be paying a mortgage with that money.

Rents have gone nuts in the past year or two. They can't build apartments fast enough.

You can partially blame me. I just moved here last year and am dumb enough to pay what they are asking to be inside the loop.

After seeing the story about the family that was assaulted on scenic hwy, paying this to be in a safe neighborhood doesn't seem that bad. Can't wait to be out of BR...

You sound ridiculous. North BR is out of control so don't live there. But to say BR as a whole is out of control is just ridiculous

most people know not to get gas in that hood at night. Just look around if it doesn't look safe don't stop.

ETA: in fact I know areas of EVERY city and or town that are like that.

Even small 2000 person towns have areas you just don't go in at night.

I lived in some of the nastiest hoods in America, (DC, West Baltimore, Southside Chicago) and even I know that.

And I carry. And at 6'2 240, I'm not really a "target" for mugging. But if the sign says MLK Blvd, and I'm not from there, I don't stop to take a pee.

Currently in a 2br/2 1/2 bath in Dallas @$2,500 a month. I'd say you're getting a good price in that range in BR.

I stayed in a 3br/2ba off corporate, rent was $1200/mo. I think they raised the rents there, probably around $1300/mo now.
