if you keep a boat on the bank of a pond, ALWAYS check under it before you start pushing it in the water.

They tend to gravitate towards boats left on the bank, I tend to kill them when they do. Thats a big one.

Believe it or not ive always heard they would be under boats on the bank and in all my 31.5 years have never found one there. Have had them come out of the seat of the boat itself.

I used to fish Santee-Cooper and Lake Eufaula a LOT. I wouldn't leave my boat pulled up on the bank even if I went in to camp to get a bite of lunch. Would always trailer that sucker. Yeah, it's a little more effort to do that, but the water mocs at both those places were numerous and they absolutely loved to crawl up into a boat or...drop off a tree limb into your lap.

I opened this thread expecting a pink dildo and a bottle of cologne like Diesel found in the woods.

That snake is way worse.

Heard, "Look, a cottonmouth" as we were walking down a ditch bank yesterday. I took a look and asked, "Which one? The diamond backed or the broad banded."

To the guy's credit, he picked the broad banded which is an understandable mistake.

According to Alx, there are only 6 cottonmouths left in the State.

A friend of my dad had a push/pull cable break on him in the basin years ago. Pulled the power back, but without steering, they bumped a tree and knocked a moccasin into the boat. Just he and his daughter. They road back to the landing on top of the console .

Well, after a couple weeks of stench, he found the thing smashed by one of his gas tanks in the back of the boat.

I have been in a canoe and had a damn diamondback water snake swim up and try to get in the damn boat. I literally had to push it away with my paddle. My brother and I grew up catching and releasing the damn things for the hell of it, but I still wanted no part of that thing in my canoe.

People definitely overstate their abundance. It's the damn copperheads that bother me. Found one coiled up on the pine straw in my garden last year.

This may not go over so well, but: DID NOT KILL

At least they are not as aggressive. They are a pretty snake, but dang they can blend in well with their surroundings.

Definitely, although they'll let you know they're there with their musk.
