Would die of heart attack. Was playing in a golf tourney 3 years ago, and was over by a creek dipping my towel in the water, and had one fall of a limb right infront of me... I shanked the next 3 shots I was so stirred up.

So he went looking for a snake in his boat when he knew it was in there?
Hell no. Burn boat.
No, he trailered the boat and forgot about it. Then the stink began as the snake rotted. After a few weeks, he investigated and found the dead snake.

How many species (seriously) are there in (south) Louisiana ??

I don't understand those distribution maps. The eastern diamondback only populates those three parishes in east central LA? And what's up with that diagonal running northwest where many snakes on the map aren't found. Can this be correct?

And when you lift a boat, try to stand behind or to the side of it. If you're in front and the opening is in front of you, and there's a snake, it's more likely to launch itself at you.

Id either drown as boat sank full of .45 holes, or explode hitting gas cans. pew,pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew. 8 + 1 rd mag. Reload ,repeat.Had a friend toss a snake at other friend easing down edge of river campsite. They actually jumped out of boat. Snake hit front of boat and fell in water, everybodys in water now. Boat idles up to bank and stops.

quote:Red River bottomland. You'll see upland/piney woods species absent there. Still plenty of snakes there though.

Frogging one night with uncle willywine, as we were pulling up to the bank, two drop out a tree in the boat. No biggie. Was watching a good 10' gator not more then 6' from us on the side of the boat.

I can see this plain as day. You boys might see another miracle if I was in that water.

While waiting to get my ride inspected recently, I read an old (80s?) article in a Louisiana magazine (cant recall the bame) that basically said there is no such thing as poisonous "water moccasins" in La. There are water snakes, grass snakes, and cottonmouths, and only the latter are poisonous and a danger to humans.

Looks like Herr Cottonmouth has taken on the duties for those in absense. lol
