Our area is getting a Cabela's AND a Bass Pro Shop.

They're both scheduled to be open for business towards the end of this year or the first of next year. One is going to be in Tennessee and one is going to be in Virginia, just a few miles apart from each other (Bristol, Va./Tn.) Since I've never shopped at either, other than catalog purchases, are these stores competitively priced? Because I won't swap dollar bills with Wally World, I'm looking forward to these businesses opening up. The only other Bass Pro Shop I've ever been to is the one at the Gatlingburg/Pigeon Forge/Smoky Mountains exit in Tennessee and it struck me as being "touristy". Can't remember which one it is, but one of the two is supposed to be over 150,000 square feet. Maybe Avatiger and I will finally have a decent place to buy stuff now? At least I know where NascarFan will be hanging out when he comes to the Bristol race.

I don't understand why either or both have never opened a store in NOLA

BPS looked to renovate a building in New Orleans off of Tchop. but nothing ever came of it as far as I know

Because they each opened one about an hour to hour-and-a-half away from NOLA

I wish we could get a Bass Pro Shop in Alexandria.

We're getting one in Little Rock (BPS) would prefer Cabela's. Shreveport's still closer for us though.

I only go to BP if I absolutely need something and no one else has it. You can pick up some decent deals around the holidays though.

Bass Pro has done a lot better job of listening to local product requests around here than Cabelas has.

We now need a Gander Mountain.

Bass Pro seems to market the working class hunters and fresh water fishermen.
Cabelas seems to market the yuppie hunters and saltwater fishermen.

Both are fun to visit. BPS has better fishing stuff and Cabela's has a better camping selection. Academy is still my go to as far as price wise, but I buy from the others on occasion. Kids love them.
A bit OT, how many times do I have to tell the employees at BPS that I am not interested in a credit card and I don't want to sign up for that trip. It's aggrivating as all get out.

Meh..........I mostly saltwater fish and don't do much hunting, but I could honestly take or leave either of them. They usually charge more and their selection isn't anything special. As far as lures go, Academy has pretty much anything you will ever need, and if they don't I just run to Puglias.

BPS will do well here, then. Cabela's is gonna be hurtin if they try to market to saltwater fishermen here. Ocean is 400 miles away. Yeah, I've seen a few of them yuppie hunters through the years, too. They're usually out of the woods for the rest of the season after opening weekend.

Actually pretty fired up about this because Gander is garbage. I do most of my shopping locally with Ft. Thompson. Headed there at lunch as a matter of fact.

They have this kiosk by the stairs and they always badger you to sign up for a trip or some bullcrap. I never listen to the presentation. One does not simply have time for that.
