And hey, let's not forget the disaster that was Olindo Mare/Martin Gramatica!! Garrett Hartley has done far better than those two guys!

Wtf are you talking about? Hartley was injured in the preseason in 2011 and we brought in Kasay last minute. In 2012 Hartley proceeded to beat out Kasay to take back the Job.

I agree that it would be nice to upgrade the position, but how? Damn near every NFL kicker that lasts is between 75%-85%(and 75% is being generous; many of those guys get cut after 2-3 years if they don't do better). Hartley is 84.5%. Go look at the available kickers career % and compare.

Fact is, unless we luck into the next Morten Andersen Hartley is just as good as anyone else. Problem is everyone is still butt hurt about the ATL game and GB game. Time to get the frick over it.

Hartley's missed 2 20-29 yds. and 5 30-39 yds. That's 91% and 80%. He's even better at 40-49 missing 2 for 85%. 71% from 50+ if anyone is curious.

LINK

He missed that one bad one at ATL and people just can't move on.

and that is unacceptable as hell.

I don't care if you miss some longer ones but you should be better than 80% from the 30s

We could have worse at the Kicker position. Just not good for my health every time we line up for a crucial 30+ yard FG.

Edit: I severely doubted him in the '09 NFCCG.. Glad he made that 1!

He's far from the worst in that range. He's slightly below average, but he is above average in the 40s. Take some bad with the good. Most of the problem is his limited chances. He's low on the list for FG attempts per year.

And to give some perspective on good/bad:

Vanderjadt went 37 for 37 one year. Mr. Money Vinatieri was 80% one year. Carney went 35 for 38 2 years after we dumped him.

Kickers are streaky as hell because sometimes they don't get many chances. They've had guys go from near top to near bottom in consecutive years. Fact is 84.5% for your career is good. If he starts getting under 80% then we can talk about cutting him.

What's up with all the Walter jr references. I'm on ep 3 of season 3 by the way. from your picture it looks like he changes a bit.

Joke? Guy hits one of the biggest kicks a kicker can make in OT to send his team to the SB(and it was a 40+ yarder) and then proceeds to hit 3 40+ yarders(first time ever any kicker has) in the SB.

Did I really have to specify a recent timeline?

And then misses a chip shot in OT the following year that proved to put the division title out of reach.

4 clutch makes vs. 1 miss. Seems like a winner to me.

Like I said, some people can't move on past that one kick. It's been 3 years.

I agree.

People need to move on from 2009.

What other kicks did he miss in the clutch? The ATL miss was the following year. What ones did he miss last year? GB when he hit the first but they had a penalty and he had to kick it from over 50?

There was an injury and also was Hartley getting shaky after the 2010 season of In 2010, he finished 27th ranked place in FG%, 11 of 15 in FG's under 40 yards.

dude had 7 attempts of 40 yards or more all last season, tells me the coaching staff used hartley as a worst case scenario and never liked using him.

6 of 7 in 40-49 and 2 of 2 from 50+. That's 8 of 9.

Again, I'm not saying he's great. He's par(looked back an average seems to be 83-84% over the last 10 or so years). Until we find someone better, he is just fine.

Show me career % of the available kickers and tell me who is better.
