Mahoney's on magazine- best poboy in nola?

I have loved this place since my first visit but always get the same thing. What is your favorite Mahoney sandwich and do you think this place is as delish as I do?

If I'm not paying it's awesome. I normally get ham, club, or turkey there. Only place in NOLA I know that uses carved turkey. The seafood is great too but pricey, however they do use quality ingredients. I would be hard pressed to single out one single poboy in NOLA as the best.

ETA: Not the club the chicken thigh po boy.

I bought a large oyster and bacon, a small fry and a Barqs and left full, fat and happy but about twenty five bucks poorer.

I love it but he's proud of them.

The service has been absolutely terrible lately. Everyone working behind the bar is a confused younger girl who takes 10 minutes to ring up an order at the register.

Also massively overpriced. I can't imagine there's a person in the world who would actually pay for $30 for a large oyster remoulade po boy.

I do like their products in terms of taste and quality of ingredients, but I don't go there nearly as much anymore because of the above complaints.

Best Poboy is the root beer glazed ham and cheese

First of all I don't really believe in the idea of naming places or dishes the "best in ________."

Secondly, Mahoney's has been quite underwhelming the 3 or 4 times I've been. Pretty damn expensive for a poboy considering what some other shops charge; I got the Cochon once that was probably the most bland poboy I've ever had. No seasoning to speak of on the pork. Root beer glazed ham was just okay. Oyster poboy was pretty good. I choose to go elsewhere.

I've never had a service issue but I only go in there when its dead on a week night. Typically walk by with the dog and drop in. Grab a beer and a poboy and sit on the porch.

I have several experiences there, most were not particularly memorable. I did go once, me and guest both ordered market price sandwiches the guy said $60!!!
I said you have to be kidding and he wasn't. I said no thanks and walked. I can't imagine why you would offer sandwiches at that price. Just don't sell the product. It wasn't the foie gras with beluga caviar poboy.
Meatball is boring, shrimp was ok, fried green tomato wasn't enjoyable, and oyster was solid but at $25 not worth it.

The place is sloooowwwww. Rarely go when it's my choice as I could have a three course lunch at a white tablecloth place in the same time it takes to get a sandwich at Mahoneys.

Been once when it was still somewhat new. Got the cochon de lait. It took very long to get the poboy after I ordered. It was average and overpriced. I attempted to give it another chance at least twice and the wait was too long so I left for other options.

As others have alluded, it's terribly overpriced.

I also don't really get the idea of using 10-12 count shrimp on a poboy. It really adds nothing, in my opinion.

The best thing about the place may be their french fries and onion rings.

First few times I went there a few years ago, it was incredible. Went there last summer and it was not good at all. Got the roast beef po boy and the meat had a bunch of fat in it. Very disappointed.

I love roast beef po boys, but you have to get the fat off the meat. Otherwise, the fat with the gravy and the french bread is disgusting.

Haven't been back. If I am paying $14 for a roast beef po boy, or whatever it is, it better be really good.

I'm not saying Mahoney's is actually the best of anything, but if we're asking what the "best" is I don't think the fact that they're expensive enters into it.

Damn. I often regret not having the food choices that a big city like NOLA offers, but I can drive 1 mile up the highway and get an excellent poboy, fries and a drink for $7.99.

You can still find that here in the metro area. The thing with Mahoneys is it makes the food network and travel channel. On the weekends taxi cabs one after the other drop people off to eat there. The is a line out the door. I would charge those prices too.
