Went this weekend and the butternut squash cavetelli appetizer they have on the menu right now was ridiculously good. I think I could have eaten five bowls of it.

Also, they must have one of the best pastry chefs in Nola. I'm not one to really comment on dessert, but every time I go there the dessert stands out. This time it was a milk chocolate mouse with some type of peanut butter goodness was amazing.

I didn't order it, but the best entree at the table was the pork cheeks. Completely out ordered me.

Went two weeks ago and tried the butternut squash cavatelli as well, it is indeed a superb app. Also had the sweetbreads, duck, pork cheeks, catfish, ny strip and butterscotch pudding. Everything was ballin. I've been going to Coquette regularly - about once every 2 months - since I moved here a little over two years ago and it has continually gotten more ambitious and more delicious over time. They're firing on all cylinders right now for sure.

Oh yeah. With this weather (minus today's rain), I want to eat on their patio every day.

I went about a month ago and was completely underwhelmed. The wife and I got the sweetbread app and somet kind of succotash with a fried egg on it. Meh. The sweetbreads had such a thick coat of batter, you couldn't taste the sweetbreads. The other app was almost unbearably salty. I believe I got the fish of the day, and the wife got the scallops. The fish came with a lemon butter sauce, and that's about all I tasted. The scallops were good, but unmemorable. There are to many places at this price point that I enjoyed quite a bit more. I will not be in a hurry to give it another shot.

Maybe it is because it got so much hype on here, but it was a complete let down.

The one positive comment I have on this place was the dessert. It was fantastic. It was a chocolate cake with sea salt ice cream with an andouille caramel sauce. The tastes, textures, and presentation were top notch. It was an interesting combo that came together perfectly.

I went on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago and did the Chef's Blind Tasting. It was $70 a person, but worth it. Everything was amazing and the service was excellent. Highlights for food were the sweetbreads and the butternut squash.

I went this past Sunday for brunch. The food was amazing, but the service was nothing short of horrible. I talked to the manager about it and he was glad that I did. I think something personal might've been going on with the waitress?

But my first experience was amazing, and I've heard nothing but great things from others, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

pretty poor ordering on your part. I agree the sweetbreads could use a little work .. but they were still quite good. better than Apolline and Flaming Torch, not quite on par with sweetbreads I had at Root and Revolution.

I haven't been to Coquette yet so I will reserve judgement until I go, but if I'm going to a place that gets as much praise as they do, I would hope that I don't have to do research on what to order before I go. I would expect that whatever strikes me on the menu as appetizing that particular night is on par with the rest of the menu.

Well said.

I still can't believe people eat sweetbreads. Is what they are serving the thymus or pancreas?

When prepared properly, they taste like a creamier, richer chicken nugget.

PS there is literally no difference between eating the thymus gland or heart of a beast and eating the tenderloin.

Sweetbreads are amazing. One of my favorite things.

And as for Coquette...

It might be my favorite restaurant, but I have to agree he ordered poorly. As with ANY good restaurant, there are going to be varying degrees of good. They put certain things on the menu for people who have shitty non-adventurous taste...like fish of the day. If you're getting that at a place like Coquette, you're going to be underwhelmed 100% of the time. Its fish of the day.

Thanks. I see "gland" and I throw up a little in my mouth. I see chicken fried gland and I start screaming.

If no one told you what it was, you would eat it, think its amazing, and not think twice.

Seriously, once you get over the initial "wtf" anticipation of it, its one of the most delicious things you could possible eat. Go to Clancy's order them. If you don't like them, you don't like them. But I bet you will.

You are not alone in this feeling. I can eat boudin knowing full well that it has kidney and liver, but for whatever reason, i cannot bring myself to eat pure organs.

I mostly agree. I am usually leery of "fish of the day" type special dishes, but nothing else they ordered looks non-adventurous compared to the rest of the menu. I haven't had any issues with poor ordering at Boucherie, Patois, Petit Grocery, or other similar places I would expect Coquette to be similar to in terms of quality, regardless of how adventurous the diners were.

One of the previous posters even thought the sweetbreads were "ballin", then told him he ordered poorly when he got the sweetbreads. Maybe he caught it on an off night.

Oh well...I still need to get over there to check it out for myself. Looking forward to it.

When I was little, a staple at our house was sautéed chicken hearts and liver. Made an interesting gravy. Over rice of course. Om nom....
