Just wanted to know what y'all do on the little things that go out. Switches fuses bilges batteries live well pumps aerators etc. What do you try and fix yourself and what do you just let the shop do?

most motor related things go the shop...anything else I will try and get working on my own.

Its not that I can't mess with the motor but I don't really have a way of testing it to see if my fixes have worked. so I just save myself the head ache and bring to the professionals.

Try to wax the hull a few times a year. Good UV protection for the fiberglass and the electric buffer makes quick work.

1) 4 stoke - so change the oil and oil filter
2) Change the fuel/water separator
3) Change the fuel filter
4) Change the lower unit oil
5) Change the anodes
6) Pull the plugs and inspect
7) Crawl under the boat/trailer and inspect inner bearing seals, spindle welds on the axle, boards on the trailer, and look over the hull for new sratches.
8) Wax the fiberglass.

I feel like that's a pretty good list. Preciate the response

The wax makes cleaning the scum line off easy, otherwise the boat looks like crap bc you can't get the scum line off.

ETA: wax it twice each time you wax. Doing it twice will ensure you coat everything and don't miss some spots.

And if you use that oxalis acid hull cleaner to clean the scum off, you better wax it right after. If not the Fiberglass will start oxidizing. The acid pretty much removes everything coating it.

This x100

Wax (minimum) twice a year
Check (often) /change trailer bearings (once every year/two years)
Change fuel/water separator
Check/change spark plugs
Check/change lower unit oil
Check/grease prop spindle and change cotter pin
Check all switches/lights
Update GPS maps/satellite locations about 3-4 times a year
Grease pivot points on the motor (tilt) twice a year, a shot or two of high quality grease
...uhh... And try to fix anything else that breaks

Did 95% of the maintenance in the pass myself and enjoyed it.

I put mine in with the boat doc twice a year. Fall and Spring.

Winterize it, then get it ready to go again.

I spend LOTS of time launching out of saltwater locations and I really hate working on hubs/tires on the side of the road.

I'd say that every two years is about average, repacking every year...hadn't had any issues however.

In Lousiana, change the impeller annually. Mud and sand from marsh and our waters wear the impeller out. Always check the annodes.

Launching in saltwater is hell on trailer bearings.

I'm considering the ultimate maintenance solution.

Sell it.

I launch exclusively in saltwater. I always hit my buddy bearings after each launch. But barring any breakdowns my boat usually sits on a lift all summer so minimal launch numbers.

Yeah, we wish we had a slip. It would be so convenient.
