I'm planning to have a bourbon tasting with a few friends. So far I have Bookers, Eagle Rare 10, Elmer T Lee, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, and 1792. Anything else you guys would recommend? I'm not looking for suggestions like pappy and Stagg or anything else damn near impossible to find. Also, any ideas on food?

Four Roses Single Barrel would be a good one to throw in there. Basil Haydens is another one i pull out when introducing people to good bourbon

I haven't ever tried the 1792 but was given a bottle. Is it any good? I was also considering Elijah Craig 12 and Willet, but I don't have any experience with Willet either.

1792 isnt bad, not something I keep around much though. Elijah Craig 12 is a good one for the money.

I think the selection of bourbon should be catered to those who are tasting. Are your friends regular bourbon drinkers who have tried several different ones and have discriminating tastes or is this just a group of guys who drink whiskey occasionally and just looking to try a variety of things?

Of your list, Elmer T Lee, Eagle Rare 10 and 1792 are all good intro level whiskeys (under $30). I'm not a big fan of the WT Rare Breed, but it's probably in the next level. Bookers is a good whiskey, but remember that it will be a potent one at high proof. Four Roses Single Barrel has been mentioned and that's another good one in the next price point ($35-40). You can also try some bottles near $50 if they have more discriminating tastes. Blanton's and Rock Hill Farms are some good ones at that point (and made from same mash bill as Elmer T Lee so you could compare what a few more years in the barrel will do). Basically, there are a lot of ways you can go with it and just have to cater to your crowd. I'll put a couple links to some of our older threads that can also give you some info.

Best Bourbons under $50

Best of luck with it and enjoy

My group of friends is all over the place when it comes to bourbon. I've probably tried the largest variety among my friends. One of my friends keeps bookers on hand fairly regularly, as do I. Another friend is a makers mark guy. One of them mainly drinks buffalo trace. A couple others drink whatever you offer them. And the last guy needs to try something other than crappy crown royal.

I've tried my share of step up bourbons, pappy 20, stagg, eagle rare 17, Elijah Craig 18. But that's too much money and too much of a step up for a few of them.

I guess I want a mix for everyone. I was thinking about dropping the rare breed anyway. I'm not a huge fan either.

Woohoo, 1000 posts! And it only took 9 years!
