Fabregas as a 19/20 year old was the best passer I've ever seen. He was absolutely amazing in 2007. It was a real treat to watch him operate that deep in midfield. I've never seen someone so good as a DLP so young. Verrati is almost as precocious. Way better defensively than Cesc ever was.

Shelvey isn't a great passer. He just has an incredible range that he has no clue how to control ("manage" might be a better word).

When I mean passer, I mean everything. Cesc as a DLP had it all. Vision, range, technique, and incredible accuracy. Literally on another level of anyone at that age. He had to move up the field because he was awful defensively, and Wenger didn't protect him enough in the beginning of 2008, a.k.a. The Denilson experiment, hence the need to deploy Song behind him and move Fabregas up the field. Such a shame because he had one of the best long range final balls.

While at Arsenal Cesc was the best in world at playing that killer ball that would lead to a goal scoring opportunity.

Fabs is all technique and zero athleticism.

I'm well aware. Part of why he is so horrible defensively is because he might be the slowest professional football player ever. At one time, Song and Fabregas made up two thirds of the slowest midfield in the history of the game.

Yea, I was just reiterating that Shelvey has few redeeming qualities, and the most significant is his passing range. He is far from being a complete player, and far from being great at anything.

I thought we moved on to mentioning other midfielders with precocious qualities.

Also I think Shelvey is a typical British style CM. he's probably had a lot of practice with long range passing, since the British game seems to emphasize that over a more thoughtful approach. The long diagonal seems to be a special favorite of a lot of English players. Personally I don't think Shelvey will put things together until much later in his career, if his temperament and lack of on field intelligence is any indication.

Watched Brasil´s shitfest today. Is it just me, or is Suárez slow?

He has exceptional physical qualities, but, as you know, once you get to the highest level, very little separates him from other top players. It's most obvious in U21 matches when he can control a match from start to finish, but then plays for the senior team and the only impact he has is the yellow card he will inevitably receive in the first 25 minutes.

It's all about commitment and motivation once you get to the senior level. The desire to learn and improve, tactically more than physically. Unfortunately I don't think he possesses those qualities.

Shelvey used to hit some absolute pings when he was on loan at Blackpool a couple of years ago

he just didn't seem motivated to play hard.

I wonder if Swansea signing Bony (great signing, by the way!) will end their interest in Shelvey?

This signing will allow Michu to play his more natural AMC role... Who knows, maybe they envision him playing deeper (Shelvey)... I'd sell for £5mm +

Several sources have word from the player’s agent, Francis Kacou, that a deal is complete for £10.2m.

Interest in Bony is extremely high, with several clubs taking a close look at the striker who managed 31 goals in 30 appearances last season. Newcastle, Fulham and West Ham all joined the race for the 23-year-old, while Rubin Kazan also showed interest.

One would think unless

We have Michu and Ki who will play more advanced central roles. Britton at deep mid now with new signing Canas. Dont know how good Shelvey is at being a disruptor in the back as that is something that we had all last year and with signing Canas looks like something we plan on keeping going forward.

Regardless this is great as now Michu won't be on an island as he was all last year and will get some much needed support up top.

ManU made a bid for Baines according to the Times. £10-12m. Baines has two years left on his contract.

Not enough. Everton would be idiots to sell him that cheap.
