These two streets seem like the new booming areas uptown. Which do you prefer and why?

I like the restaurants and bars on Maple more.

I'm a Maple guy as well. With my favorite bar being Annex, that place is so badass.

So how are you affiliated?

I vote for Oak. More diversity in shops than Maple or Freret....Maple is littered with terrible undergraduate bars and a few nicer spots, while Freret is mostly restaurants. Oak offers a mix of restos, shops, bookstore, coffeehouses, an artisanal bakery, thrift stores, comic shop, hardware store, etc etc. It's a real commercial strip all the way to the river.

Correct question is, how are you afflicted?

Minus a bookstore, Freret has all of those.
I don't care for Maple at all. Oak is fine, but I don't hang out along there much despite living close by. I eat along Freret for lunch several times a week. Anyone try the new cheese steak place? Pretty damn good.

I'm unaware of any "real" bakery on Freret, much less a seriously high quality one like Breads on Oak: www.breadsonoak.com
If you're talking about the cake place...it's not a full service bakery. No bread. :( Just cake.

But they still take flour products and bake them, correct? So it would be a real bakery.
I think Freret pretty handily beats Oak and Maple when it comes to casual restaurants. High Hat, Ancora, Sarita's, Wayfare, Company Burger, Freret Poyboy, Midway, the juice bar, Liberty Cheese Steak, Dat Dog, and Origami.
