So after everyone raved about Nur's I decided to pick some up to compare to the Sabra I had at home in my fridge. While I was grabbing the Nur's at Whole Foods I also saw some hummus called Pita Pal. I thought it was Sabra at first because the packaging is almost identical except the rim is green instead of red.

I enjoyed the Nur's. It is a completely different taste than Sabra and about HALF as dense. I wonder how they make it so light and fluffy.

The Pita Pal was also REALLY good and the density was somewhere between Sabra and Nur's.

$4.99 for 17 oz of Pita Pal
$5.99 for 8 oz of Nur's

I think I'll get Pita Pal if deciding between these. I actually felt like it tastes more like hummus. Nur's taste...different (a good different). I forget how much the huge (25 oz) containers of Sabra are from Sam's. I still love me some Sabra though.

Based on taste:

Pita Pal >> Sabra

Nur's is just different altogether and not worth the price IMO.

ETA: I Think Nur's has a LOT of olive oil in it to make it so light and fluffy. It also has an olive oil taste to it.

Maybe they whip the oil into a foam, did it accidentally once with my processor and it seemed fluffier.

I'll have to try Pita Pal next. All I know is Nur's puts Sabra to shame. You got Pita Pal at Rouse's?

Guys, quit buying something so easy to make that is truly better fresh. From the RB:

2 cans of Garbanzo beans, 1 drained
1/2 cup tahini paste
2 T minced garlic
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/2 t red pepper
1 t salt
1/4 cup EVOO
4 T Italian parsley

In a food processor, add all ingredients except the parsley, and process until smooth. Then, add the parsley, and go another 15 seconds. Taste and adjust seasonings. Serve with toasted or untoasted pita bread.

I can't say, but I'd expect they do. Damn Brookshire's carries a brand. Hummus isn't magic...unless you make your own.

If you put dried chickpeas in Da Crock Pot overnight or while you're at work all day, you'll have enough cooked chickpeas to fill the Thiunderdome with homemade hummus. Dried chickpeas are extremely cheap....a jar of tahini lasts forever. This is one of those things US consumers waste so much money on....it requires no technical cooking skills, except operating a food processor.

Drop a few bucks for some za'ater (spice mix w/sesame, sumac, thyme, etc) to sprinkle on top and you'll never buy the prepared stuff again.

You know what will make your homemade hummus magic? Throw some badia complete seasoning in there. Addictive!

I need to try this pita pal stuff.

It should, balls. I use Cento chickpeas when I make hummus. I also add some sundried tomatoes to the mix.

Pita Pal is WAY better than Sabra IMO. Basil and Sundried Tomato flavor is killer.
