What is wrong with that marriage. I understand some marriages are based on power, based on striving for something but those people just seem to hate each other. But yet, they claim to love each other. Then they just cheat on each other. I expected Frank to lose his shite when he knew where she went...but no, the cat just sits there and takes his wife back. I can't fathom that.

I don't care for Frank's wife. It's not that I'm "anti-strong independent woman", some of the stuff she does is a little ridiculous. This charity she runs seems worthless/useless. But it's realistic. I'm sure there are 1000's of charities out there run by some politicians spouse.

Overall, the show is amazing and well acted. I was kind of blown away. I'm going to say its up there with Breaking Bad as King of TV Series at the moment. Absolutely fantastic.

Yeah, they both realize being monogamous is a hindrance in their quest for power.

Frank has said on a few episodes that success is about power, not money. They are a power couple, I think they Love each other becuase they share same goals, obtain as much power as possible and do whatever it takes to achive the most power. They use each other and their resourses to achieve those goals. Its their little secret.

They cheat on each other to get ahead, gain power, and are honest for most part about it. They dont view it as cheating rather than a career move. Calire in one episode asked if Frank slept with Zoe, then asked if they got what they needed.

I understand it. I'm just a bit blown away I suppose. Marriage aside, she doesn't seem to be more than a statue- she's hard to define. Well acted because there is no doubt she's authentic.

I also didn't understand what she was doing with that security guard by grabbing his dick and rubbing it. That kind of confused me.

that whole scene explained their marriage

She respects Frank because he takes what he wants. The dying security guard waited until he was on his death bed to tell Claire that he was jealous of Frank and wanted her. She grabbed his thing, asking him if that's what he wanted...he told her to stop.

She was basically proving that she loves Frank because he isn't a wuss and that Steve, the security guard, is a wuss for not being a man and taking what he wants

I don't think they hate each other. I think their marriage like many political marriages is one based on power as others have stated. They love each other because of their common pursuits of power, and not because of any romantic inclinations.

I don't think it's mutually exclusive

I think they truly love each other romantically and they are also business(power) partners. They also have a lot of give and take between them and know how to play the game. They understand the collateral damage that comes with playing the power game

I would say a big reason that he didn't care about her cheating was maybe because she let him go off and repeatedly bang a young, slutty staffer.

It's jsut an avenue for her/him to get more power.

No doubt, for those that haven't yet watched all of Season1 (specifically at least through the point where he returns to his college), quit reading this post....Spoilers below...

It's pretty obvious at this point that he's gay, or at least bi. I'd be willing to bet she knows about that and it will be explored further as the series progresses (his college history with his buddy, etc). But, as others have said, their marriage is more about teamwork/power than about sexual attraction/desire/emotion.

no, it's not.

all that we know is that he and his buddy messed around and that Frank loves him. But that his desire and love for power were stronger than anything else. It doesn't mean he's gay

I disagree. I think their love and companionship are stronger, or at least even with their desire for power

WTF. Did I completely miss something in there somewhere. I must have been snoozing at this point. He messed around with his college friend?

Yeah, I'm probably overstating it....I just think there's more to that storyline to come and I'd be willing to bet the wife isn't completely in the dark about it.

Yea thats the vibe that was given when him and his college friend were talking the morning after they went drinking. It took me awhile to realize it

But the story wasn't explicit. FWIW I never thought about him hooking up with his roommate. I never picked up on the "vibe" you're referring to.

The second he took Frank's hand, put it on his chest and remarked how fast his heart was beating, it immediately threw up a flag.

Also, Frank may be gay but there is no doubting he is at least Bi or enjoys women as well. He was definitely upset when Zoey cut him off.

I definitely think it was implied Frank and his college buddy fooled around. May have just been something he did at that point in his life and he never did anything else with another dude, but he went there in his past.

I remember that but just thought it was drunken nonsense. But of course, him waking up with his head on his shoulder was kind of weird also I'm just naive to this stuff.
