re: Big 4 Consulting - MStant1
Consulting at the Big 4 is limited due to their audit practices. Consulting projects for audit clients can create conflicts of interest, or the appearance of conflicts. You might want to consider one of the consulting businesses that were spun off from the big accounting firms (there used to ...

re: Big 4 Consulting - MStant1
If you are interested in true blue management/strategy consulting, then Big 4 isn't the place. McKinsey, Bain, Deloitte Consulting (not advisory), BCG are what you want. The best way to get into one of those places is to go to a top 10 MBA program. Engineering consulting is out of my wheelhouse,...

re: Big 4 Consulting - MStant1
What advice would you give a young person trying to break into consulting at one of the Big 4 (Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, EY)?
Depends on what you are defining as "consulting". The only one of the Big 4 that still has a distinct "consulting" arm is Deloitte. The rest have what they call ...

re: does your company still offer a pension? - MStant1
Mine does; however if you're not an executive, then it's relatively small. The real pension starts for the executives. Rumor is that Non-equity executives get something on average in the realm of 150k per year in retirement. Equity partners get something on average in the realm of 500k per year. ...

re: My two cents on CLM - MStant1
We always hear that CLM is the greatest HC for LSU of All-Time and I agree. However, we don't have a great coaching history. Before Saban came in 2000 we were very average all the way back into the 80s when Charles McClendon was running things. So it is easy to look at our recent history and ...

re: Why does Jesse Palmer wear his suits so tight? - MStant1
That said I do think that Jesse has a tendency to over tailor - which is the unfortunate trend at the moment. Jesse could afford to have everything taken out by a quarter of an inch and it would probably be just fine. I do agree with others in the sentiment that he dresses way better than the others...

re: EY Office Visit - MStant1
Definitely depends on service line and city. Audit in houston you are basically a lock. Advisory/consulting in Dallas its a toss up. Basically more people want to live in Dallas and there is less work. Not familiar with NYC though in terms of offers etc.
Good point. I'm thinking t...

re: EY Office Visit - MStant1
I don't work for EY so no advice there. But you have to do something pretty stupid to not get an offer after an office visit with any of the big 4
Very common misconception, and it is also very wrong. I've seen plenty of smart kids not get offers after an office visit. ...
It's not FSO, although I didn't rule it out as an option in the interview. It's for an RAP internship, so general advisory I assume. Are you still doing FSO? Oil and gas?
I'm still doing FSO. I work in our Regulatory Compliance group with Anti-money laundering and sanctions (to a...

re: How Does Your Salary Compare To Others? - MStant1
It's honestly impossible for me to gauge on glassdoor. For my job and title there is like an 80K bandwidth from the low to high according to Glassdoor which is very realistic. The reason it is so big is because a) annual raises are commonly double digit percentage b) There are informal sub-level...

re: Millennials: Not Negotiating Your First Job Offer Will Cost You (up to $0.5M) - MStant1
If you assume that all recent grads are entirely fungible and indistinguishable. But that's not right, either, or you wouldn't bother with searching resumes and interviewing. The advice to millenials in this thread boils down to "always accept their first offer, no matter what!" That is lit...

re: Would like opinions on a potential change in majors. - MStant1
If you want to be guaranteed a job in finance, work towards financial compliance because that is the fastest growing industry BY FAR
This is very sound advice. Compliance is booming. While obviously the pay in Compliance will never be what people think of as "finance pay" the sala...
