they must be satisfied (somewhat) with what medicaid pays them because they are always offering me a 50-60% discount if i pay cash.

Think about that for one second....Think about why they are eager to accept cash so eagerly at a loss...Do you think they are the one's that are losing out?

So when will the govt start subsidizing doctors to keep them in the field?

More like, I wonder if there will be a decree under DHH in the powers that it was granted under Obamacare, that it is illegal for a doctor to practice without accepting insurance

you really believe that it's actually "at a loss"? seems like educated people, like physicians, can do simple math.

You're claiming physicians offer you their clinical services at 50-60% off Medicaid's reimbursement rates?

If that is your claim, you're either confused or lying.

Thats the truth. They probably were ahead with a cash payment, and didn't have to wait on the filings, and documentation, etc.

I knew a doctor who retired in the early eighties. He refused to accept any medicaid or medicare or any form of government funding. He refused too because he did not want to integrate his waiting rooms.

He had a very good reputation as a doctor and was very popular. He maintained separate waiting rooms until he retired. Ironically he probably treated more black patients in the small town he was in than any other doctor. His office visits were $12.

Back then general practice doctors would do a lot more than they do now. He would set bones in his office. I am sure he delivered a lot of babies but probably not as many late in career as he did in the fifties and sixties.

no. i'm claiming that they offer a huge discount if you pay cash.

ex- two weeks ago, i went with my daughter to get a root canal and bleaching. the total that they would bill the insurance company was 1240.00.

i had to come out of pocket- 440.00 (wasn't in network)

he said that, if i pay cash, he would take an even 400.00. well, i paid cash.

he says that he offers this to all his clients.

Dr. Rajat Bhushan, arguably one of the better doctors in the state, has informed us that he will no longer be accepting ANY insurance and will be moving to a "cash-only" basis. Thus, since we are not OT ballers, we will have to move to a doctor of poorer quality. I thought our standard of care would stay the same?

Shame on Obama for forcing that doctor to stop accepting insurance. It's Obama's fault.

My family doctor sent me a letter last week telling me he is closing his practice April 1st. FWIW, he's 67 and said it was time to retire anyway.

So how is that a consequence of Obamacare?

When I quit taking Humana, they started calling pt's and basically trying to dig up dirt. The pt's informed me about it and I had my lawyer contact them. They were basically trying to discredit me because I was refusing to accept their shitty payments and insane amounts of paperwork. Funny thing is that just days before, I had recieved a very high rating from them on quality of care reviews.

It's getting harder and harder to take such actions and rhetoric by Physicians seriously. Here's a story from 1984 when Reagan signed the Deficit Reduction Act.

LINK

"The Deficit Reduction Act, signed by President Reagan on July 18, froze Medicare physician fees through Sept. 30, 1985. Under the law, doctors who violate the freeze by raising their charges to Medicare patients may be excluded from the program or be required to pay a civil penalty up to $2,000.

Dr. John J. Coury Jr., chairman of the board of trustees of the American Medical Association, said the new law ''will deny Medicare beneficiaries the ability to select the physician from whom they will receive care."

Sound familiar? This dog and pony show has been going on for three decades.

And at the time you heard the same old story. "Huge student loan debts", "years of schooling", "cant break even", or "I'm going to close my practice" and yet if you fastforward two decades the number of Physicians is at an all time high and the average salary of a Physician ranks in the Top 2% of the American population. So much for being impoverished.

If Dr. Bhushan thinks he/she can deliver care to less patients on a cash-basis and do better then more power to them. I'm sure there are business models and locations where this may work very well. History suggests that such comments are just empty rhetoric.

I just wish hospitals would allow people to become members. You pay your annual membership dues and you medical expenses are covered. Once a member you are automatically qualified for renewing you membership and membership price is based on age. Would seem good for the hospital since they eliminate the middle man (Insurance), and allow consumers to choose they care giver based on price.

Since you are still confused, I will try to help you out. Medicaid probably only pays about 50 dollars for it.
