Short Question for the Liberal/Progressive Posters re: Gun Control

Cars kill 0.01026 of the United States population every year (roughly 32,000 in 2011)

Guns kill 0.0038 (roughly 9,484 in 2008, the last year available; figure includes every instance where a gun was involved, not just violent crime).

Do you really believe that gun "violence" is a pressing issue, or that the democrats play on the uneducated/uninformed populace that has misplaced fears regarding firearms and their actual threat to society?

Get out of here with those facts. You'll get nothing but crickets with that kind of thing.

re: Short Question for the Liberal/Progressive Posters re: Gun Control

This is a ridiculous argument that undercuts the purpose you intend. Let's just treat guns the same way we treat cars then,so:

1. You have to pass a regular proficiency test to have a license to use a gun.

2. You can't us a gun when you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

3. You must purchase insurance to pay damages to anyone injured by your gun.

4. Gun manufacturers are subject to product liability claims.

5. There are restrictions on the types of guns you can purchase and where you can use them.

It's certainly a serious issue, but won't be fixed with gun control. Better parenting and less black market drug violence are more important.

concealed carry course has a shooting proficiency test.

2. You can't us a gun when you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

you can't out and about, possible allowance in the event of a home invasion

quote:

3. You must purchase insurance to pay damages to anyone injured by your gun.

shootee ought to have life/health insurance in the event of justified shooting, shooter faces jail/suit for unjustified shooting

quote:

4. Gun manufacturers are subject to product liability claims.

are you talking about mechanically caused accidental discharges or user related ones? former is a non-issue, latter is just silly.

quote:

5. There are restrictions on the types of guns you can purchase and where you can use them.

there already are...

Yet there is still more deaths with cars than guns despite these restrictions.

Also cars are not a constitutionally protected right.

Why? What would this accomplish?

Maybe because it's a waste of time and money.

I collect Flintlocks, CapLocks, and Trapdoors. Do you think a Universal Background Check is necessary for 2 black powder single shot rifles and 1 single shot cartridge rifle? Remember the 1898 exception in Federal Law?

My question is, What do you gun control people really want? I know, you want all of the guns!

MOLON LABE !!!

So, when I want to give my 10 year old a gun for Christmas, he will need to get a background check first?

re: Short Question for the Liberal/Progressive Posters re: Gun Control

"for some reason"

The reason is that "universal background checks" = "universal gun registration".

Here are 13 reasons:

LINK

FIRST: The principle that no American can own a firearm without getting the go-ahead from the government is offensive to Americans. ...

SECOND: Universal background checks would not have stopped Adam Lanza (who stole his guns), or James Holmes or Jared Loughner (who passed background checks).

THIRD: One of the nation’s leading anti-gun medical publications, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), found that the Brady law has failed to reduce murder rates. ...

FOURTH: Increasingly, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms is illegally going into gun dealers and xeroxing all of the 4473’s -– a practice which represents the beginnings of a national gun registry.

FIFTH: The FBI refuses to tell us how or whether it is complying with the Smith and Tiarht amendments prohibiting Brady names from being kept for a national gun registry.

SIXTH: Germany just set up a national gun registry, based on index cards kept at 551 locations throughout the country –- cards not dissimilar to the 4473’s which every American gun buyer would be required to fill out under a Universal Background Check system.

SEVENTH: The NICS list currently contains the names of more than 150,000 law-abiding veterans who didn’t do anything wrong (but honorably served their country and then sought counseling for their wartime experiences) ...

EIGHTH: Anyone who doesn’t believe a national gun registry leads to national gun confiscation should consider the confidential memorandum advocating confiscation and circulated by New York Democrats prior to their most recent round of New York gun control.

...

Whether they know it or not, anyone who supports "universal background checks" supports gun registration. It is impossible to have an enforcable "universal background check" system without universal gun registration.

There is a resaon why Schumer, Fienstein, McCain want registration, and there is a reason why gun confiscation plans are preceded by registration.

Sigh...

I posted two simple facts, and not one advocate for gun control can counter with a sensical argument.

I know there are left-leaning posters on this board.

But really guys, around 10-12 thousand deaths a YEAR? There are countries in Africa who lose more than that to hunger/disease/genocide DAILY.

Isn't it obvious your liberal efforts would be better spent on a mission trip or something

...or maybe you are't really convicted of anything, except in your mind, lack of complete and utter tolerance of your asinine views = no tolerance.

Is that really a relevant comparison? I don't think so.

unenforceable, won't reduce crime, best case results in "gun tax" on all private sales, worst case confiscation

pretty solid reasons

re: Short Question for the Liberal/Progressive Posters re: Gun Control

Bad comparison. There are more drivers than gun owners. I would like to see a kill per user number though.

Regardless, guns are used to kill/injure whereas cars are meant fort transportation (I know thats a simplification that I will probably get attacked for, but hopefully y'all understand the point). Point is, the majority of the numbers for car deaths come from accidents, whereas that can't necessarily be said for guns.

Don't get me wrong, I think that all of these restrictions being discussed are ridiculous, but this isn't a good argument for that.

You are basically incoherent, man. Bad comparison, rambling rant, and myopic views. JMHO.
